Ode to the British Summer - a Josie challenge |

Just to help Sarah with her pentameter, I thought we Brits should write a poem between us in iambic pentameter, lamenting the British summertime. I will start off the first verse and leave an invitation to others to add a verse of their own perhaps describing what they see in their part of the country. Just for fun. Perhaps people from other countries might like to also write one re their own weather - but it must be in strict iambic pentametre for this challenge - to help Sarah. I wonder if we will get mention of hurricanes, tornadoes etc from the States - or from Australia, winters where the weather is better than our summers? ha ha I was inspired to start this after reading the poem called "Walk With the Rain".
Long summer days are here to cheer us all.
Days filled with sunshine, flowers and songs from birds?
No, driving wind and rain replace their songs -
Which leaves me now completely lost for words.
PS Excuse me: I see my sheets, once put on my own clothes line, are now wrapped seductively round the smalls on my neighbour's line. ha ha Whatever next? That would be another verse for a later date.

Tornado verse! Written by fellpony (1571 comments posted) 19th June 2008 | As requested, Josie. Tebay, across the valley from us, is Tornado Alley: Unthinking days of summer bring warm air to meet the arctic draught that emanates from eastern climes. Of twisters' hail - beware! England has more tornadoes than the States! I understand we have more per annum, in numbers, but they are nowhere near the strength that is famed in the American tornado states.
