Sticky eyes

The winding, cobbled
streets
somewhat confusing
but also very fascinating

walking is the way
wandering, alone
chasing the essence
of a place
the people
the shops
paint peeling from the buildings
drunken fights in the street
the smell of sea air
kids in pubgardens playing
while their fathers sip a cold one
drops of water like a snake down the glass
while they sit, stare and
contemplate

the happy, the successful
and the worn down
all somehow beaten

It’s all there to see
the truth on display
it catches the heart
like a cat catches a mouse

I like this, yet the line "like a cat catches a mouse" was a bit of a cliche I thought. I would like to see a unique simile here to end the poem with a punch. just my opinion though.
