Monster Earth

This is intended as a light-hearted response to Josie's excellent 'The Mighty Monster', recently posted in the children's section. (Highly recommended BTW).

She asks for responses from children, so here's mine . . .

Cheers!

The Monster Earth

The Earth’s a mighty monster

who mothers us in vain.

Where is her gentle comfort

for those who writhe in pain?

Yes, the Earth’s a mighty monster,

who ignores us all the time.

What can I do but write a song

and find another rhyme

for what she doesn’t give us,

what she cannot provide -

the love that we all live for

and some of whom have died?

Mother Earth rolls round and round

And round for what it’s worth –

she must answer to Heaven,

but for what?  What on earth

is going on when we write

yet another love song

for a lover or the sun, the moon?

Have we got it horribly wrong?
