Hard! Push Hard
By beatricelouise
07 July 2008

Became a grandmother for the sixth time around this week. What an experience!

“Push! Push! Don't stop pushing!”

Doctor Jain wants this baby out now.

Blue sterile garments drape her legs.

Foot of bed has been relocated.

Creamy padded stir-ups restrain legs in position.

I watch the birthing process.

My new grandson will finally emerge,

Following thirty-one hours of birth pangs.

Tears blur my vision.

If only I could eliminate her pain.

‘Just a little longer....

Easy for me to say,

She says, “This feels like hell.”

‘Yes. I know.' Memories resurface.

‘But, you will love him all the more.'

I know. She will love him like, I do her.

It looks like your new grandson will be a contemporary of mine - born on June 27.

My daughter had a much easier time than yours - only 5 hours in total.

But quite a difference in the way it was done. My daughter had no sterile garments on her legs and no stirrups - although they did put her in that position when they stitched her up after she tore.

I enjoyed reading this - and your emotions show through very well.

Congratulations jean.day on your new grandson. How big was he? Bryce Evan was 21 inches and 8lbs. 9oz. He's just gorgeous.
Thank you Phil! Nice of you. :grin

I'm afraid mine was bigger. Arran River was 9 lbs 8 ounces. Was Bryce your daughter's first child? We also have a Bryce in our family - which I had never heard used before he was born - but he's 21 one.

Does your new grandson live near by you? Ours is about 50 miles away, but we plan to see him for a few days each week until he is sleeping through the night - or his mother gets into a routine that allows her some sleep.

Bryce is

Sorry about this mishap!

Bryce is only 12 miles away, and I believe I forgot to tell you that he was born in Roseau, Minnesota. The only thing that seperates our neighours to the south is the border. It can take a while to get through the port if something is suspected, but the hospital there is the closest so our children are born dual citizens. What a bonus! :grin
