This week I received the dreaded redundancy notice. I'm sure a lot of people are struggling at the moment - unless any of you are lucky enough to have safe jobs that you enjoy!
REDUNDANT
Not wanted
Not needed
I am now defunct
Like the appendix
They can find no reasonable use for me
REDUNDANT
A word that screams:
Impotence
Uselessness
Facelessness
Not enough points on the matrix
Nothing personal you see
REDUNDANT
A polite way of saying:
We don't want you
We don't like you
We don't need you
We have a replacement at half the cost
More important than quality
REDUNDANCY
An avenue out
A wake up call
An opportunity!

I hope everything works out for you. Phil | Written by Veronica_Milvus (794 comments posted) 9th July 2008 | Hey listen. I was fired once, and not because of a recession, but because they hated me. I'm now earning more than twice what I was then, in a job that I like much better. Chin up! And good luck finding your new opportunity. V | Written by Josie (2945 comments posted) 9th July 2008 | | Here here! I've not only lost my work, and, as a part-time teacher, I never knew if I'd be needed again in September. I've also been at death's door but recovered and gradually found I couldn't walk the last few years. The last two things have been a door closed on life - but I'm still here and have found new opportunities that have opened up the world to me because of it. Veronica is right - it is a completely new opportunity for you. When we have had these things happen (and my husband too), new doors have opened up to things beyond our belief, even if that meant moving to a new area for work. Get going and good luck. In five years time you will look back on this as just a blip in life. | Written by Robru (279 comments posted) 10th July 2008 | Look for something new that excites you. Redundancy is not a personal thing at all. Your ex employer just wants to make more money by not having to pay you. Remember opportunity only knocks on the door, YOU still have to open it. Good luck, whatever you decide to do. | Absolutely! Written by Katanga (1698 comments posted) 10th July 2008 | Agree with Robru and others above, though it's easier said than done! Powerfully written piece. All the very best! Things work out, no matter what. Regards, TT | Thanks all Written by Garrulous (108 comments posted) 11th July 2008 | | I'm actually not taking it as badly as the poem suggests but thanks all the same. Will attempt to do something more worthy of a proper critique next time. |
