Where are you?
By Katanga
13 July 2008

Another attempt at a 'Rondeau Redouble'.

Looser in both metre and rhyme than my previous, and not at all sure if it isn't altogether too clumsy.

Comments more than welcome - I write to learn.

Pretentious, moi?!

Cheers!

John

Where are you?

Where are you now, who stole our midnight passion

and bartered love for solace in the spring,

when winter passed and I went out of fashion,

and songbirds sang and set about their nesting?

Did glances, looks and words bring anything

much more than comfort? You and I thrash on.

I’d give you all the time the seasons bring –

where are you now, who stole our midnight passion?

You found another bed, new life to crash on,

and took away my purpose and my reasoning.

You stole all heaven from my meagre ration,

and bartered love for solace in the spring.

And now I wish you well in everything,

until your last pale dawn, ice-cold and ashen,

reminds me you abandoned all I sing,

when winter passed and I went out of fashion.

Wild storms, high tempests, roar and they lash on

my hollow heart that held a constant longing,

that howled for winter’s dream, denied compassion,

and songbirds sang and set about their nesting.

Your reckless soul, that found no peace in resting,

that looked on me with cool misplaced dispassion

when love took flight and flew off on the wing,

is gone from heart and mind, to merely dash on –

                                          Where are you now?
