Memory of my Mum

I'm not looking for critique on this, although you are more than welcome to give it.
If it touches something inside you like it has for me then, well okay.
I wanted to write something in memory of her but not all gushing and sloppy, I hope you think I have gone a little way in achieving it.

Michael

It’s a year today since she passed away

And I still can’t find the words to say

How much I loved and now miss my mum

Whilst I carry on, its now no fun

It’s true they say that you never know

Exactly what you miss until they go

Little things you can’t explain

Of how mums memory is now ingrained

I won’t forget the time we had

In this short life which now seems sad

That she lived her life and lived it well

So now I should go out and tell

All my children which I love so dear

Don’t grieve for me once I’m not here

Just go out there and have some fun

And we’ll talk again when your time comes

Very personal.

And yes, it does touch something inside me - very much so. I think you have gone a long way in achieving your purpose, Michael. Not easy to post something as rawly felt as this. Thank you. "You don't know what you've got till it's gone." Joni Mitchell, Big Yellow Taxi. How sadly true this is.

All the very best,

John

How well your poem expresses your loss. All of us who have lost parents will understand how you feel, and it doesn't get any easier as the years go by. The only thing you can do is hand the love that your mother gave to you, to others in this world - family or not. Lots to think about.

Yeh,"don't it always seem to go". My parents are still here, but I know I will feel this when they pass. I think the positive nature of the last line explains why we continue. Good advice in verse, well organized.
