PAYING IT FORWARD
By JohnnyD
17 July 2008

Life is all about paying it forward

In good ways or at times in bad ways

Knowingly or unknowingly, at one’s will

In my life too

I have paid it forward at times

As lives changed around me

The joy when someone achieved success

Is indeed the best feeling

Knowing your payment has been accepted by God with grace

My English teacher paid it forward

By making my copy red

By humiliating and correcting me

Never knowing exactly why he was doing then

I realised the day my first article appeared in newspapers

I reminisced my good olden days with a smile and tears in my eyes

Years ago, I had a directionless friend

Busy making merry drinking to enjoy life

When the inevitable happened one day

Much to my surprise and amazement

One night he was fighting with his drinking partner

As the world around him was enjoying the scene

I was surprised and angry

Because I really liked my friend’s helping and jovial nature

I paid it forward by giving him a tight slap

Stunned at my reaction and outburst

Before he could say any word to me

I said we would talk tomorrow morning and walked away

His silence and understanding was amazing

Next morning he came to ask forgiveness for his act

I explained why I had to slap him

With the flaw of never having studied earlier

His perseverance to excel in education

Made him to ask for guidance from me

He was shy for not knowing English too well

I  just gave him the needed confidence to face the world

As he promised to excel in computer course

Years later, he came to thank me

Showing me his degree in first class

I felt elated, he felt on top-of-the-world

Changing a directionless life is not hard enough

For it needs just one important thing in life

Pay it forward with true intentions.
