TALENTED FAKERS
By JohnnyD
17 July 2008

For 22 men, three to judge
Who fakes the best
Among the rest
In 90 minutes test

They say, game of soccer
Is test of pure skills
Skills to beat the best
In reality how to fake to be crowned the best

Maradona, Messi, Ronaldo and other greats
Are indeed fakers of the highest calibre
Their hands of God and fake tackles
Have allowed to fool and be rewarded by the referee

While the fans cheer
Opposition feels it is so queer
Referee’s whistle is the real power
While 22 men waste their physical power

I wonder why the world cheers for a game of soccer
In which everyone fakes for the sake of their talent…

********       ********     ********     ********

Truth has really no place
In the world ruled by liars
Talent is loved
Only when you know how to fake it well

In the world of soccer
However talented you are
If you don’t have the art to fake
Your talent is booed by fans

Twenty two talented players
Pitied against each other
With just one man to make the decisions
Often supporting only the fakers

No wonder, they all are talent personified
For they represent their respective countries / clubs
In front of millions of spectators / fans
They fake with gusto and confidence to perfection

Very surprising is the truth
As each one fakes to outdo the others
Their cries aloud, when others fake it
Because they all know how to fake it well

Talented fakers, talented fakers
Please tell me one thing
A game is played for the spirit of the game
So where has your REAL SPORTSMAN SPIRIT vanished?

Try Hurling

Well that was a real anguished cry. I think the problem is that football is no longer a game but big business.
In answer to your question the spirit of sportsmanship hasn't vanished at all. It is still there in Hurling, a form of Irish Hockey. It is still an amateur sport, played just for the love of it,driven by passion not money. I recently went to see the Munster Finals with Clare playing Tipperary and the atmosphere was wonderful. We lost but you wouldn't have guessed it in the town afterwards. So if you are looking for sportsmanship and passion have a look at Hurling, if you can.

No Hurling in India

I have been playing football ever since my childhood. I have played for various teams and local clubs in India, so that is why I wrote this poem without any malice for the lovely sport. However, when you watch World Cup or else Euro Cup, these are the feelings that often is going on in my heart and mind.

Jane, thank you so much to enrinch me with Hurling but sadly the sport is not in my country. I am glad you enjoy the sport though. Take care!
