A woman's wrath

“But…Becks…” Andy babbled “I love you. Rebecca swung the iron bar with tremendous force catching Andy Square in the ribs. There was a sharp cracking sound as metal hit bone and Andy buckled in pain and crumbled to his knees.

She looked down at him from her towering height as he whimpered pitifully on the floor. There was a look of pure revulsion and boiling hatred in her eyes. “You” she said in a voice that shook with anger and sent chills running right through Andy’s body. “You dare to tell me you love me after you used me, you said you loved me and yet all the time all you wanted was fame, the fame that a pitiful little rat like you brought down the most feared family of all time”. Rebecca raised the iron bar for a second time. Andy coiled himself up waiting for the stinging pain, but it never came. Carefully Andy looked up, the iron bar had hit him before he’d even completely raised his head. It struck him full in the face, there was an earth shattering crack. Andy screamed in agonising pain as the blood from his broken nose swam before his eyes. Covering his face Andy cried sorrowfully, re-coiling himself for protection. Rebecca snorted with cruel laughter as she looked down at Andy’s pathetic form.

She raised the iron bar for a third time but as she looked down into Andy’s terrified eyes she felt it. The feeling she had been trying to avoid ever since she had found out that Andy had betrayed her, the feelings she’d had when she first met him. Like a worm in the wood work she had built around her heart it came slithering its way in. At first it was just a tiny hole but then as Rebecca looked down into Andy’s face, the blood on his cheeks and the tears in his eyes Rebecca felt her heart ache as the warm feelings she’d had for Andy came flooding back incinerating the wooden cocoon she had built around her heart ever since coming into this business.

She sighed and turned away from Andy and dropped the iron bar to the floor. Rebecca walked away from Andy into the warehouse, behind her she heard the sound of shuffling feet  as he got up. This was it Rebecca decided, this was where all the hard work she had done got her. She had turned her back on her brothers when they had needed her. She had to stand back and watch her brother Damien, nothing more than a baby of eighteen be put away for twenty fucking years because she had refused to provide an alibi. Her oldest brother Danny had been blown to bits by some filthy little scumbag who wanted fame. This was what paid for the house, two cars, fancy dresses, evenings out and that bloody imported vodka she downed by the bottle.

As Rebecca looked down at her hand she could see that they were trembling so much so that she couldn’t have held the iron bar even if she’d wanted to. Rebecca could have ran, she could have just left Andy there and her brothers would have finished him off, he would be out of there way and she could…No she couldn’t think like that, she hadn’t come this far just to back out because of some tears and blood. Rebecca knew she would have to face Andy, no matter what happened she knew she had to face him on her own. She had turned on her family once and so long as there was breath left in her body she wasn’t going to do it again.

Slowly, as though her entire body was filled with lead she turned around to face Andy, she looked up into his eyes and she saw it. She saw, not the man she’d felt sorry for but a pathetic coward. A rat trying to classify himself as a man and yet he did not have the guts to stand and take a beating like a man. Any one of her brothers would have stood straight and tall till the end but not Andy. He was a coward, a pathetic figure of a man if she ever saw one. Rebecca glowered at Andy, he did not dare return her gaze. “Look at me” she commanded, Andy kept his gaze down too nervous even to move for fear it would anger her further. “You can not look me in the eye” she said coldly “and I know what, it’s because you used me, you let me think you loved me when in fact you USED ME!”. With that shout Rebecca snatched the iron bar up off the floor and raised it. Screaming Andy dropped to the floor and coward. Rebecca walked over to him lowering the bar as she went. “Get up” Rebecca bit out “get up and face me”. Andy did not move, he dared not for fear of what he would see. Rebecca smiled cruelly as dropping the iron bar once more she pulled a gun from inside her jacket. Seeing the weapon Andy’s face went white as he backed away from her. It was a stupid idea, Rebecca had known that. She watched him back himself into a corner as she drew closer and closer, like a hunter and prey she thought with satisfaction. When Andy had no where else to go Rebecca stopped. There was a brief moment in which an eternity seemed to pass. The silence that rang in Andy’s ears was like that of the eerie wind that blew across a cemetery. A place the dead and forgotten were sent at the end of their miserable existence and a place he himself would soon be going.

He looked up at Rebecca, her eyes were cold and her face solemn. Andy wasn’t sure when he consciously made the decision but he knew if he didn’t beg for his life the he would be just another slab of concrete in Harlow cemetery. With pain that seared through his ribs and head Andy managed to struggle to his feet. “Rebecca…” he wheezed with difficulty “you have to believe me, I did not want things to be like this but I have a lot of enemies and they wanted my head or yours, what choice did I have?”

“What choice?” Rebecca spat as she stared at him “WHAT CHOICE? You could have stood up for the woman you loved and supposedly wanted to marry. The woman who you vowed to protect but when push came to shove you put your own pathetic existence before mine, that is the ultimate betrayal which deserve the ultimate punishment.” As Rebecca finished she took the safety off the gun.

Andy’s face paled, he knew he was going to have to try this from a different angle, and quickly. “Rebecca…babe” he started. Rebecca put her hand up to silence him. Andy, still clutching at straws tried again “I did all I could love…” he said, trying to sound sincere although his heart was in his throat by this time. Rebecca snorted with laughter before sighing wearily. Andy felt his palms sweating, one more shot he thought to himself. “I mean…”he said trying to sound confident although he could barely hold himself upright “it wasn’t as though you loved him anyway…”

Rebecca looked up sharply, from the look in her eyes Andy could tell he’d made a grave mistake. “Andy…” Rebecca said in a voice that spat poison with every syllable “when I left my family I turned my back on them, I watched them put my brother in jail when I could have prevented it. I may have made some mistakes as far as my brothers are concerned but…” at this point Rebecca raised the pistol so it was level with Andy’s temple and with a voice that shot an icicle “I have never not loved them”. Rebecca suddenly lowered the gun so it was level with Andy’s testicles and pulled the trigger, Andy screamed in pain and dropped to the floor as he felt the bullet imbed itself into his testicles. Rebecca stood there, and evil smile on her face watching him scream and cry out in pain. “I suppose you expected me to shoot you in the head, get it over with quick and painless death” she said with malice “well you’re wrong, I want you to suffer, I want you to lie there and feel the agonizing pain I felt when you killed my brother, and you will suffer as I did.”

Andy lay there on the floor, a pathetic figure crying in pain. Rebecca stood there for what seemed hours, watching him and enjoying her revenge. The blood from Andy’s would ooze out over the floor. Rebecca watched this display with immense enjoyment. When Andy had cried all he could and screamed all he was able, he lay there silent, a shell with no soul. Now he had suffered enough, now was his time. Rebecca raised the gun until it was level with Andy’s head. She watched in cruel joy as the colour drained from Andy’s face as he caught sight of the weapon. “Good bye Andy” she said solemnly”.

“B…b..Becks” Andy stammered “please…don’t do this…think about it…I love…”. Rebecca didn’t hear any more, she pulled the trigger. There was an earth shattering explosion then, nothing. Andy lay staring up at Rebecca out of sorrowful eyes slumped sideways, dead, at last. Rebecca stood for a moment staring at the corpse before turning away from it. She left the room. That was it, it was over, at last.

Well, I suppose it did what it said on the label. This was high melodrama, fast paced and full of the wild emotion that the genre demands. The dialogue was that odd mix of fierce emotion, to explain motivation, and exposition, that you often get in soaps. The trouble was there was little or no subtext so we no nothing about the characters so it is hard to care whether she kills him or not. Things are hinted at, but there is not enough for us to engage with them. As a scene from a longer story it works well but it is not complete in itself. This was fast paced and readable and if you scripted it might make a good sample for submission for TV
BTW, it is not a good idea to make multiple posts; one at a time is better if you want them all to be read.I have just chosen one.
Ration your genius.

I like where your going with this one he he (just kidding) Again, highly emotional. You are clearly passionate about your writing. I feel you have vented some of your own feelings onto it, making it even more engaging.

I liked it, but also agree with bottleblonde in that it seems a bit like an excerpt from a book.
Would make interesting reading
