A whimsical late night ditty . . .

Cheers!

Love's Auction

Going out this evening?
Staying in tonight?
Balancing your decision
on what is wrong and what is right?

Please stay in this evening!
There's something I must say
to you before you leave,
before you go away

forever to an unknown world -
at least it is to me -
where happiness may find you,
where I will never see

or touch your face again.
The Devil wields his thrall
of depression and anxiety.
Oh God! Where is it all?

The passion and the longing,
that belonged to us back when
we laughed and sang and took our chance
before Heaven, Christ, and then

all Hell broke loose and lost us,
Chaos held us in her sway -
we were swirling in a whirlpool -
love would not go away.

I see you now in yellow light,
a mere bulb - no full moon.
Why did you have to leave me
so suddenly and so soon?

We steady at love's auction
of passions, right and wrong.
In your sweet lot, I lost you . . .
Going, going, gone!
