Botched Removal

A slip of sign
Plastic-covered poster corner
Climbs inexorably each year.
Stapled to the tree,
It provides a primer
For crows learning to read.
They will soon caw
Lost.
Lost.

Wonderful piece of observation (especially the fact that each year the sign is a little higher). Love its casual surrealism and the fact that you don't give too much unneccesary detail away.

Enjoyed this very much. Yes, surreal - in a way - but entertaining.

Thanks!

Thanks for the kind comments... I like that it is just a tiny bit surreal too.

This poem grew out of seeing a little bit of poster that had been stapled to a tree and then ripped off. The only words left were "Lost on" and up sprang the idea that the only ones reading this poster in the future would be the birds.

Again, thanks for the reviews!

Thought this was a really good piece. Every time a new poster or sign goes up I always wonder if it will be removed after the event or just left to fade into the surroundings.
