The Baldasacoot
By Katanga
24 July 2008

I was doing the crossword just now with a dear friend and colleague. I had filled in one across, which was 'bald as a coot', but neglected to indicate the word-breaks.

My friend peered at it and said, 'John, what's a baldasacoot?'.

This inspired us to write the following nonsense!

N.B. 'baldasacoot' shoud be stressed on the second syllable with an unvoiced 's' as in

'bald ASS a coot'

Ha! Ha! Ha!

Cheers!

The Baldasacoot

Have you ever heard the mournful hoot
of a featherless baldasacoot,
who in the daytime rarely sings,
but when he tries to spread his wings,
emits a lonesome sorrowful toot?

Does this creature exist? I never heard of it either. Anyhow, nice poem; Unless my definition is correct (and the first line should contain a geographic name), you have a limmerick :-)

Good nonsense as usual John. I used to live on a narrowboat and spent many hours watching their antics.

Enjoyed

Punchy - yes indeed, I adore total unadulterated nonsense. Has more wisdom sometimes than any serious stuff . . .

Kellie - did you really live on a narrowboat?

Wow! I'd barter my arse to live on one with a mermaid for a summer . . .

I dream on . . .

Chjueers!

Yes, I lived on one for 5/6 years. Hard work but well worth it. Back then they're was a real thriving community of water gypsies but British Waterways have really tightened up on it though.
