I Am Here
By sara
01 January 2006
I am the woman
who looks after you

I am the woman
who bore your children

I am the woman
who holds us together

I am the woman
who always comes last

I am the woman
who sleeps alone in our bed

I am the woman
who you vowed to cherish

* * *

I am woman
I am here

I really liked this poem - perfect style for what I imagine was being conveyed, short and certainly to the point. Neither sentimental nor elaborate which was good, I found it had a certain weight to it which worked perfectly. Last two lines were great - I'm not entirely sure why it appealed to me as I'm neither a woman or a nasty inconsiderate bloke (which I'm sure was the topic of the poem). Only minor suggestion, is that the second line , "who looks after you", could be a bit more powerful...it sounds a little coloquial if anything, written differently but with the same meaning it might add to the impact as a whole. Other than that I really enjoyed it, although it's obviosly quite a sad poem, with, for me, a moving amount of pathos.

A long story told in very few lines. Very good.
