YOUR FLAG BURNS
By keefmagic
02 August 2008

I pity the smoke
And it's Ghosts ,
And I cry for thee .

I pity the patriot
And their loyalist hordes ,
St George and her majesty .

They do not represent me ,
Nor the stars and stripes that govern me .

I pity the patriot and the fool ,
As I burn your flag with glee .

Bring me emancipation ,
And a flag of depth ,
Make my flag red ,
As we bury your dead .
Indiscriminately.

Hmm, political so I'm drawn, I'm always interested in this sort of thing. I don't know quite how to take this though. On one hand it has a hint of republicanism and anti-establishment which I'm in favour of. It seems to be a rejection of the establishment and the way in which our society runs, patriotism simply blinding the people.
On the other hand it has a bit of a nasty edge. The last line is especially chilling. A suggestion of some sort of revolution, perhaps the red flag hinting at a socialist revolution? Maybe I've got this totally wrong, but thats what it seems to say to me. And I quite like it, although its unusually written, it has quite a dark edge and mysterious edge to it which is appealing, although I don't know whether to agree with the sentiments expressed or not lol

This is a cold, chilling poem. Socialist, like Mr_soul hinted? The red clearly indicates, unless you speak of blood. Reminds me vaguely of anonymous.

Pardon, I forgot: It's a very good poem, none the less.
