The One

a poem inspired by the song of the same name by Irish band U2

I’m not here for forgiveness
I’m not here to raise the dead
I’m here to ask if you’ll play Jesus
To the lepers in my head?

Can your exorcise my demons
And make me clean again?
Can you stop my heart from hurting
Every time you call my name?

My eyes are open but the lights are getting dim
Come with me
And we’ll erase each other's sins.

It’s raining outside but it’s a beautiful day
If you were by my side
Everyone else would fade a way.

I have no armour or guard
To stop me getting hurt or upset
All I have is the depth of my mind
And the questions in my head.

I hope when I ask you
You’ll answer me true
The only thing I know is this
I can’t live with or without you.
