Working Hands
By bobc
08 August 2008

Playing with fire and steel, and making the future real.

Fingers surround ancient wood with loving force
Flying steel meets steel
Sparks of power make way through the air
A mental image real

The fire brings the colors, dancing radiant masks
Informing eyes and mind
Muscle obeys, comanded, "Move the  marks"
Created pathways climb

Movements in the pliant, firey dough make way
Then freeze into design
And perform in magical permanence
Loving into time

Hands of blistered smiles sing
Successful songs were sung
Working hands with graceful thoughts
The future's now begun

Ah, I have been pestered to write something of my work, but thankfully you have done it already. There are so many familiar images here, but I would never have thought to describe them the way you so colourfully have:
'...dancing radiant masks', 'And perform in magical permanance/Loving into time'

And that final stanza - wonderful. Enjoyed this very much.
Cheers

Yes, I agree there are some really lovely images in your poem and a real tribute to the people who work in steel and wood. I love your phrase "working hands with graceful thoughts." God bless the ones who work with their hands to create beauty I say!

Thank you Brett, Josie, petitephoto! The fire and steel are the source of the images and beauty. I'll be posting about some of the fun too! I need to do much better with meter, words, and structure, I think.
