The Joys You Get Simply From Living

The happy clam hung out on the side of a rock

The salty fizz licked its lips hungry for a taste

Never understanding why the peachy hands grabbed at its kids

Because it could never sit down at the table with a bottle of wine and discuss.

Blubbering against the bed it wept

Shuddering along, bumping into currents

Blistered and bedraggled the horny tree crept

The stones moaned at the ceiling in the cave

The oceans found the crash cymbals

The rabbit caught the snare

The random keys unlocked the piano

The irrational noise was the sound of the choir snoring

The pretentious director guffawed

And the editor undid.

The penguin suits made the wedding crew sink

The colour red became the colour pink.

The drunken fool became the enlightened genius

They got followers and t-shirts and logos.

Eros fucked Venus under the mistletoe

And Rodger loved those hot crossed legs below the buns.

We all swam naked having too much fun

The rippling giggle fell into the river

And we followed it to the sea

One of us drowned in water only up to the knee

And we all had a knees up in their memory.

There is nothing but the self in everybody.

But the body met a buddy

And the mind became sweet.

The tangible tang of friendship spilt on the sheets

The hum of new lovers too insatiable to sleep

The lull in conversation when the joke becomes deep

The silence on the rock as the clam just waits.

The saucy lie in on intimate breaks

The catch in the breath when too ecstatic for words

The bubble of love when it gets you off guard

The delicious taste for the wake up call.

And not hitting snooze.
