I'm sure something similar has been done before......
Panic broke out in Scotland today as reported sightings of a giant ball of fire appeared in the sky over parts of the country. We have unconfirmed reports that this phenomenon was spotted in the skies over Aberdeen, Dundee and parts of the Highlands. Some Aberdeen residents complained of feeling happy and warm, while others just walked around confused and scared. In some areas there are reports of people going blind after staring to long at the amazing sight.
After the brief appearance of this blazing wonder, many citizens started to panic, which led to rioting and some looting of chip shops and off-licences. Others, meanwhile, got down on their knees and prayed, thanking God for the forthcoming apocalypse. The emergency services are currently trying to regain control of the situation but are struggling to cope. One police chief described the scene as “utter pandemonium”.
We must urge the populace of Scotland not to panic and stay indoors for the time being. It's not thought that the strange orb is in anyway dangerous, as long as you don't look directly at it, but as a precaution, please keep all doors and windows shut and avoid the temptation to take your gloves, scarves and thick jackets off.
The fireball appeared in the sky at 1:23pm and lasted for 1 minute and 19 seconds. This was in between the rain and drizzle that's been falling for approximately 29 years. We're also getting unsubstantiated reports that this phenomenon is frequently seen in the skies over many foreign countries.
We'll be right back with more news on these strange events and we'll have the famous scientist Katie 'Jordan' Price on the line telling us about something she calls “Sunglasses”.

Nick, joke aside for the moment and concentrating on the grammar, your opening line reads that reported sightings of a giant ball of fire in the sky appeared over parts of the country. That is, the reported sightings themselves appeared in the sky. As for the joke, the penny drops fairly early on that you are alluding to the sun so you don’t need the part that reveals the burning sphere is in fact called 'the Sun'. There is a suggestion that this phenomenon is frequently spotted in the skies over many foreign countries. After the break we'll have the famous scientist Katie 'Jordan' Price on the line telling us about something she calls “Sunglasses”. Katie Price, a famous scientist? Famous hot air balloonist, perhaps! All the best, Steve. |

Steve - Thanks for taking the time to review. I think I've fixed the first line...? As for the reference to the 'Sun', I'm sure anyone reading this would be aware I was talking about the sun but I was writing this with a view that the people of Scotland have never seen or heard of it before. It was supposed to be funny but maybe not!! Anyway thanks again. Nick |

A funny bit of business. I thought it built well and the dig at Scotland was the icing on the cake. I must agree with Steve that it didn't need the line telling us it was the sun, as the joke depended on us guessing early on.It would make the 'Jordan sunglasses' gag funnier if you left it out too. cheers jane |

BBS - Thanks for the review. Since both Steve and yourself agree that the sun reference isn't needed, I will remove it and replace it with Steve's suggestion. Anyway glad you liked it and thanks for you comments. Nick |

Phil/Roger - thanks for the review. Phil - Cheers for the nip-pick - I have removed one of the offending repetitions. Roger - Didn't want to comment on the rest of the country in case, by some miracle, you were having better weather than us - oh well I guess not - A decent summer is now measured in cm of rain - the less the better!!!! He he he!! Great idea! It came together real well at the end, perhaps it's just me being dim, but I didn't click you were talking about the sun until the end I think Wales and possibly Ireland could be included in this too, or just the whole of the UK. Ah the joys of England. Great piece! Lauren |

Bookwormandco - Thanks for taking the time to review. Glad you found it funny, although I think some of the credit needs to go to all the reviewers for their suggestions on improvements. Nick |

| Haha. Smart idea. No doubt they were also shocked that the skies turned blue. |
