Lullaby

The sea lulls in eternal whispering

Leaping shores in mighty swell

In silvery light

It casts a spell

To her aching and hopeless heart

She finds no sense of her existence

And what better way to end her suffering

Than to surrender to its

Soothing

Welcoming

Chocking Strangles

------------------------

(Inspired by Elinore Wylie's "Sea Lullaby").

I've read that poem and it is frightening, but many people can easily understand the sea personified in this way as it seems to have a personality of its own - often very cruel. I liked the first line particularly "The sea lulls in eternal whispering". In actual fact this eternal whispering is rather soothing. Do you mean "choking" and not "chocking"? Welcome to Great Writing.

There's a book The Oxford Book of "The Sea" by Jonathan Raban, sort of an anthology that compiles everything from "The Seaferar" to "Sea Knell". After spending some time running through it, it grows on you. The different ways of looking at the sea is interesting from one writer to another.

Interesting piece, I've always found it fascinating how the sea can on one hand appear so calm yet can become so powerful and cruel on the other. I think you done a good job with this one. "Soothing, welcoming" v "choking strangles" for example.
Nicely written, welcome to GW!
