FIVE ‘S’
By JohnnyD
16 August 2008
When I migrated from Hyderabad to Bombay in search of better prospects, I gave myself FIVE YEARS to achieve professional goals. Each year describes the Five 'S' of my life... Hope many would realise the power of the FIVE 'S'

Life can be summed up in five simple steps
Only if you have learned to use the five ‘S’

The first ever ‘S’ is the beginning of every single soul
S – STRUGGLE, that is right
We all do in our own different ways
To overcome our existence for survival

The second ‘S’ is the bitter reality
Many succumb to end up in misery
While few overcome their struggle
Those who SURVIVE are all set for another level

The challenges up ahead are harder
The survival more competitive
But those who can SUSTAIN
Crosses the barrier of the third ‘S’

The fourth ‘S’ is the real test of character
As many falter at this particular step
STRIVE and so you will seek
Life’s goal has never been so near yet far

If you have overcome the four ‘S’
Realising your dreams to achieve your goals
Seems so-so satisfying and calming
As you SUCCEED, you realise life is so worthwhile…

How strange that you have written this. I have just been telling my young friend OA about the steps she will have to take to become a writer, and she is STRUGGLING on step one. I expect she will see this poem. How very right you are Johnny.

I like this. It really is true though how many people give up at the first hurdle. I can think of another S - Stamina/strength of mind, that also applies to this.

I am glad you both have liked my struggle to success story in Bombay. It was in the fifth year, when I designed my new year card with the FIVE 'S' to thank one and all, who were responsible in one way or the other, for my success. The card was highly appreciated by all the stars of tinsel town and all others whom I had interviewed during my stint as a journalist. There were other people responsible, who played important role in my success and I thanked them with my special card.

Kellie HI! I am touched for you to point out another 'S' - Stamina / Strength. Well, when you see on the larger scenario - the first four 'S' indicates the one you have pointed out. Only if you have strength and stamina, you will struggle, isn't it? Those who are strong will survive against all odds. With your stamina, you will sustain and ultimately strive to achieve success. Always remember, never give up in life and live the way you want to, not otherwise... All the very best!

Hi. I'm the one who Josie mentioned. Stuck. Anyway your work is thoughtful and well set out.
OA
What are you waiting for OA?

Now that you have the MANTRA (formula) of SUCCESS, come out of the STUCK condition OA (may I know your real name please). When I came to Bombay (considered to be the New York of India because it is known as the DREAM CITY for every Indian), there was no one to guide me and tell me how I should go about.

I was jobless for three or four months. I have been fortunate because three of my friends helped me to stay alive (hahahahaaaa....). I taught a child to earn money for couple of months, later joined a ad agency to stay afloat and finally landed at the leading most dailies TIMES OF INDIA's office. It's here my journey started as a journalist.

While all my compatriots were trying to secure their jobs, I kept knocking at various doors (publications) as a freelancer to finally end up writing for all the major publications of India (60 odd publications - magazines, dailies, news agency, website and couple of International publications). In the shortest period of time (6and a half years), I became an Editor of an Interiors magazine.

OA, the reason I am sharing with you my story is to inspire you and many more kids, who are stuck and don't know where they are heading. STRUGGLE - SURVIVE - SUSTAIN (very important) - STRIVE to SUCCEED! I do hope, it will help you to come out of your situation and yes... think BIG and then I am sure no one can ever stop you to succeed. All the very best OA and all the children of this section!

Lots of love,

Johnny D
