Question to a quiz contestant worth £20,000 . The contestant answered 'vegetable' and lost her money!
Quince - Fruit or Vegetable?
A tomato's a vegetable and also a fruit,
A carrot is a vegetable and also a root,
A cauliflower's a flower and also a veg -
All are vegetables, and so is my hedge.
No, I can't eat my hedge.
But, it's still a veg.
'Tatoes and cherries, savoury or sweet,
Chestnuts and parsnips and sugar beet,
Blackberries and guavas are good to eat,
Mustard and peppers, oats and wheat,
And mushrooms and truffles - Oh what a treat!
So, I'll make my point without hesitation:
All these things are vegetation -
Edible flowers, green leaves and roots,
Berries and nuts - all are vegetable,
Though some aren't fruits!
And now, dear friends, the very big question:
"For twenty grand, love, give me a label -
A quince is - A fruit or a vegetable?

Quinces I think are technically fruits but I am not much of a botanist. A fun poem. | Refreshing! Written by Katanga (4169 comments posted) 17th August 2008 | Just found this! A sweet cool juice of poetry that has refreshed the parts of me that other poems on this site of late haven't reached. More please! Cheers! John X | Enjoyed this! Written by Katanga (4169 comments posted) 17th August 2008 | Yes - that last line does it for me! Along with the rest of it. Phwooooooargh! John X | Written by mia_ms_kim (1057 comments posted) 17th August 2008 | I found this very entertaining. This makes me wonder how insufficient the categories we have devised are. I'll just enjoy my quinces.
