In Memory of a Great Man

Dedicated to BUMPER Sumo.  It's a fact, only the good die young.  1972-2006.

Deon, the whole World is going to miss your talents.

Your humour always lit up the room when you walked in.

Your charm that you carried around your neck with pride.

Your charisma that radiates the company around you.

Your dance style, which is so unique.

The way you rolled your partner over your stomach.

Your personal well groomed mannerism.

You became an icon as a sumo wrestler.

You were good at your trade as a policeman.

You touched the lives of all your colleagues.

You are the love of your wife and kin's lives.

Words cannot describe your worth to humanity.

Then suddenly, on 7 January 2006 you were gone.

Taken away to higher calling.

Taken away to perform your honourable duties in heaven.

You will be, no you are, sadly missed by all.

Prepare a table for your friends.

So that we can all, be united once more.

Let every ones sorry turn to joy.

With the knowledge that you are waiting for us all!

Go in peace my dear friend until then.

Er...don't like saying nothing when I've read something but feel a bit weird about this. Is this why no-one else has reviewed this?

I can't say I like this very much which is a shame because I have no doubt its heart felt. Either that or a piss take. Which is why I probably should do what everyone else has done and leave well alone.

You have had your day in court.....
Actually he was a well loved ex colleague of mine and served with me at the Brixton Murder and Robbery unit, Johannesburg. That's why we can enjoy "Freedom of Speech" :eek
A totally opposite view...

The Feed brought this to my attention. And though I am probably the very last person qualified to comment on poetry, I am glad it did because I enjoyed- if that is the correct term- reading it, and felt some admiration for the individual whose epitaph this was.

I have to say that I have have none of the seemingly bizarre reseservations mentioned above and can find no evidence in the poem to express such. Certainly not a 'piss take'?! Rather I found it eloquent in its use of mundane and anecdotal language to express a dignified emotion. That way, cleverly, the subject of the poem became much more the focus than the poem itself. Something, incidently, a few others on the Poetry section could learn from.

May he rest in peace.

Slan!

Impartiality belong to a humble few.
Thank you for your unbiased review.
May God bless you with a trouble/judgemental free long life. I was taught that if you cannot say anything good, then don't say anything at all.
