I cannot wait..
By JininyC
27 August 2008

I cannot wait to see you
yet you've never seen my face
I cannot wait to hold you
yet you've never been embraced

I cannot wait to kiss you
yet you've never felt my lips
I cannot wait to guide you
Yet you've never even tripped

I cannot wait to touch you
Yet you've never felt a thing
I cannot wait to rock you
Yet you've never heard me sing

I cannot wait to hear you
Yet you've never made a sound
I cannot wait to take you out
Yet you've never felt the ground

I cannot wait to watch you
Yet you've never used your eyes
I cannot wait to smile at you
Yet you've never laughed or cried

I cannot wait to love you
Yet you've never felt a heart
I cannot wait to meet you
Yet we've never been apart

I cannot wait to teach you
The experiences to be had
I cannot wait to see you child
and for you to meet your dad.

I know this particular sentiment has been said before but that is no reason why it shouldn't be said again, especially when it said so well.
I liked the repetition, it added to the drama and the emotional intensity.
One of the stand out lines for me:-
"I cannot wait to meet you
Yet we've never been apart"
That vividly expresses one of the odd emotions of pregnancy. Sometimes there is a great line in a poem that makes you look at the poem in a different way and elevates the work.
I did think the rest of it worked well and was sensitively expressed.

Your love (and excitement) come through - for that alone, a success. Not a style of poetry I usually enjoy - but that is just personal preference.

All the best. How long to go?

Congratulations

I agree with Phil that your love and excitement absolutely whines through this and having the gift of a child must be one of the most precious things. I've just had two for the day and there has not been one minute of that time when I would have preferred to be with someone else. So you have your delight extending far beyond 9 months as well as frustrations sometimes. I think that being a parent is also a big learning process for an adult too.

Ooooh - Shines through. What a shame that S is so near to w. Shining or whining - congratulations again and I loved your poem.
