Well someone had to.
In light of recent events Gary Glitter tribute Act, Darren Green, has renamed his band and changed most of his act.
“It’s been marvellous”, Darren said, “the media frenzy has increased our bookings by over 2000%. Barry Glitter and the Paedos now are booked every week until our Christmas extravaganza at the Locarno Ballroom, Enfield. Apart from Gary’s big hits we’ve included loads of other songs that seem to fit with the times. Is zeitgeist the right word? “Young girl” by Gary Puckett, “Don’t stand so close to me” by the Police, “Claire” by Gilbert O’Sullivan, and almost anything by Chuck Berry and Michael Jackson. We’re not sure that our audience is yet ready for Jonathon King.”
Meanwhile, in an exclusive interview, our intrepid reporter has discovered the reason that Gary Glitter delayed so long in coming back to England.
“They wanted me to sign the Sex Offenders Register” Mr Glitter told us, “and I didn’t have a pen. At home, for the benefit of guests, I only keep crayons and felt tips for colouring in.”

Well someone had to... Written by Phil (7001 comments posted) 30th August 2008 | ...and you did it pretty well. Raised plenty of wry smiles along the way. I'm sure some would say that there's no humour to be had from cases like this - I disagree. It all depends on tone. (at least, in my opinion) Phil | Written by wltshr (352 comments posted) 2nd September 2008 | Phil, you're a star. Like everyone I like to be read but I also like to be reviewed. I was told that this subject matter was too raw and any vaguely humorous approach would be considered too dark to be generally acceptable. (Thank goodness I didn't mention Gary's ordering of a Portuguese take-away a year ago.) I was hoping to get sufficient feedback to gauge the readership. I'm glad you thought the tone worked but I'm a little saddened that so far only you have left a comment. Best Tony | Material such as this... Written by Brett (1001 comments posted) 2nd September 2008 | is too rare! I laughed out loud. I do think a lot of people will too readily condemn a piece like this without taking on board the fact that this is, sadly, all too possible. 'Barry Glitter and the Paedos' - no thought at all has gone into that name, but I was in hysterics. The inclusion of Gary Puckett's 'Young Girl' to their reportoire is inspired, as is 'almost anything by Chuck Berry'. Loved that closing gag. Enjoyed very much, and, like you, disappointed on the lack of feedback. Cheers | Written by Bottleblondesurfer (3590 comments posted) 2nd September 2008 | A tricky subject and if you don't get it right it can really look crass but you caught just the right tone.It was far too silly for anyone to take offence at it. The jokes kept coming, each one topping the last. By spreading the net a bit wider and including others it kept the tone light and allowed the reader to laugh. But it still carries a bit of a punch. I think you're ready to take on givitsum's crown with this one cheers jane | Written by coosh (923 comments posted) 3rd September 2008 | | ... and then three come along all at once. I seem to recall you posted this on Newsbiscuit, where there was a bit of a "Glitter Glut". Good piece, liked the tribute band angle, particularly as it's frighteningly plausible - as Brett says, no thought has gone into the name, which brilliantly reflects Darren, and his crass hopping on the bandwagon, as it were. Is anything bad publicity these days? Gary hopes to finish an album and write a book - to prove his innonce... Good stuff. | Written by coosh (923 comments posted) 3rd September 2008 | | Sorry, Freudian slip.... should read "innocence". | Golly!!! Written by wltshr (352 comments posted) 4th September 2008 | "... and then three come along all at once." Brett: Hi! I don't think we've met. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for reviewing. Jane: Thank you. Givitsums crown? I'm not sure I'm talented or angry enough. BTW You appear to be hanging out with a new crowd. Take care! There are some funny buggers writing poetry. Coosh: I've only just discovered Newsbiscuit. I'm not sure that I'll go there again. The winners seem to be photographs or single funny headlines. Some are very good but... (Innonce had me in stitches!) Best Wltshr | great ending Written by Bookiegirl (15 comments posted) 11th September 2008 | | i love funny pieces, especially - like yours - when they end with a funny line because you just end it on a high. gave me a good laugh, thanx! | Written by wltshr (352 comments posted) 11th September 2008 | Hi Bookiegirl I'm so proud. To have something that appeals across the age spectrum. GG eat your heart out. Wltshr |
