I WANT TO PLAY MOMMY
By JohnnyD
04 September 2008

I see Daddy in the morning
I see Daddy during bed time
All day long, I wonder
Where is Daddy?
What is Daddy doing?
Why Daddy is never home like Mommy?

Mommy is always doing something
Dressing me up, cooking or washing
Feeding me when I am hungry
But whenever I want to play
Mommy never allows me to do so
I wonder why? I wonder why?

I want to play Mommy
I want to play with you
I want to play with Daddy
I want you both to play with me
I want to enjoy my childhood
Just like you in your childhood stories…

This is a poem ABOUT what some children may think - yes - but I am not sure it is a poem FOR children to enjoy. My grandchildren would find it hard to understand because their parents have forfeited lots of material things so that my daughter and her husband can spend time with the children playing with them, reading to them, taking them to the swings etc. When I was a child it was considered the right thing for a mother to do. Nowadays many children are put into nurseries within weeks of being born..
Children will definitely enjoy this Josi

The reason being it has been written from their perspectives. How they wish but really fail to understand their parents dilemma and strictness...

I am sure you are experienced enough to understand what goes in a child's mind since you have been associated with them since a long time. This is the bitter truth that seldom we as parents think about a child's joy and pleasure from their point of view. This poem is a reflection of such a situation.

Yes, it is true it may not be applicable to every child but the majority do wonder because of their ignorance and naivete.
