I is for Ibis
By Northern-nana
09 September 2008

Got mixed up and thought I would write a poem about an ibis, which I thought was some kind of deer, and was quite surprised it was a bird.  So I did it anyway then someone mentioned to me that the deer is an ibex. Too late now.....

I is for Ibis

I'm an ibis in case you haven't heard
My colour is red, black or white.
I'm an elegant long-legged wading bird
I'm a beautiful sight when in flight.

Folk say that I'm not very clever
But I don't think that this is quite right.
I'll fly in all kinds of weather
To a beach that's bathed in sunlight.

The problem is you won't see me
The reason is perfectly plain
It's apparent to me, in England you see
There's no sun at all, only rain.

But you and I aren't so different
We both seek the sun and blue sky.
You go in a plane, and it seems such a shame
That people don't know how to fly.

Ah - you've moved over to birds now! - That was a bit sneaky. We haven't done camels yet. Only joking! I met an ibis near Melbourne, Australia near to a wildlife sanctuary. It was hanging around the carpark where, obviously, it was well fed. There's a lot of myths surrounding this bird for those who care to Google it. Well done Northern-nana.

Thanks Josie. I did worry about the cheat, but I thought 'I' was so hard - just couldn't face iguana or impala - now there's a challenge!!

I liked this poem, though I must admit I don't know alot about these birds. Still it sounds like my type of bird - a sunseeker!

I didn't know anything about them either, I was just looking for something beginning with I, but I'm with you on the sun front Kellie - thank you for your comments.
