Raggedy Ann: Mark II
By kitten_princess
18 January 2006

Listening to a Rufus Wainwright song, with the phrase "Raggedy Andy" in it... I think it partially inspired this piece.

As usual, I dislike the title, and would love feedback and comments!

I found her in the corner
Upstairs, where no one goes any more.

She was torn, tears escaping from her
Blue thread eyes, leaking down her
Soft fabric face. She was perfect.

She wasn't like the others.
Not a hard porcelain doll
With coiffed ringlets sitting on her head
And glassy eyes cooler than the night sea.

She wasn't a plastic figurine
Pristine in the box,
Never been opened,
Never been touched.

She looked up at me
I held out a hand.
She reached out
With those stuffed limbs

Just awkward Ann.
No longer raggedy.

Raggedy Ann: Mark II

[I like the title except I wouldn't understand what Mark II means]

where no one goes any more

[I think "where no one goes" would have enough sufficiency]

coiffed ringlets

[Unfortuantely I had to look that up so either you have great word use or I need to broaden my vocabulary! It looks like you have good use of specific words. A writer needs to use the right words, not just 'curles' etc.]

[You designate this group very well.]

Never having had a doll, I found myself picturing very clearly as I read this the (original) line drawings of Christopher Robin trailing a battered-looking Pooh up (down??) the stairs ... beautiful bathos, not overdone: thoroughly enjoyable and not a word too many. :grin

First time I read this I didn't like it and, because I like to say something I decided I better read it again. At which point I found I do like it. Just a little glimpse of something isn't it? An old doll and its associations and nothing more.

Really good
