I will freely admit that the subject matter of some of my stories can tend to teeter on the edge, so having sailed close to the wind on a few occasions I decided it was time to offer a broadside.
I was driven to write this while considering the modern attitudes towards sex, and the way that the media and public (public led by the voice and will of the media) view/viewed the sexual preferences of the rock stars Gary Glitter and Jerry Lee Lewis; only one of whom saw fit to marry his young lover.
No doubt this will offend a few, and no doubt it will encourage the usual crop of infantile reviews. Hey-ho. I’m not exactly mister popularity, so losing a few more readers will make little difference to my dabbling on GW.
Contains language and sexual references - though not necessarily in that order.
A special prize to the first person who suggests that this should go in non-fiction.
On the same day that convicted paedophile Paul Gadd (a.k.a Gary Glitter) arrives at London Heathrow on a one-way ticket from Bangkok, I’m lying beside a swimming pool sucking on a cheroot and marvelling at the aesthetic beauty of a pair of ripening breasts as they dance seductively inside an overburdened sopping-wet black bikini. She’s stunning; blue eyes, shoulder-length wavy golden hair and a wide sensuous mouth. I have her down as a 34c (although given that this object of my desire is French, perhaps I should be thinking in continental sizes). She really is a knockout - jeux sans frontières indeed - I can certainly think of a few games I’d like to play. I give her my full attention as her eager fingertips skim from neckline to cleavage, delicately kneading orgasmically-charged flesh that ripples like a corn field in a warm breeze. Her nipples are becoming erect. She’s making it perfectly clear that she wants me. She turns her head briefly and says something incomprehensible to her mother. As I listen to her speak, the memories come flooding back.
I was in a pub playing the slots when I had my first encounter with a mademoiselle. I’d stopped off for a quick pint or three on the way home from work and, at about 7:30, a coach-load of French schoolkids invaded the place. Amongst them was a young half-caste girl who immediately caught my eye; all I can really remember about her is that she had dark seductive eyes and sensuous lips. About ten minutes after their arrival I hit two jackpots in quick succession. The clunk-clunk of the slot machine as it discorged my winnings caused a small crowd of the French kids to gather ‘round me, one of which was the girl. I gave her a wink and she raised an eyebrow.
“My friend likes you,” said one of the boys.
“She doesn’t speak English?”
“Non.”
“Tell her that I like her too.” I spent the next twenty minutes in a quiet corner with my hand inside her blouse luxuriating in my first authentic French kiss. I recall that Wham’s A Different Corner was playing on the jukebox. ‘Take me back in time maybe I can forget, turn a different corner and we never would have met.’ I still love that song.
It was certainly a different corner where my second French connection was concerned. We met in a nightclub in Croydon; I think it was called Cinatras. I bought her a couple of drinks and she invited me back to her place for afters. Afters indeed. After an eternity of Édith Piaf I finally managed to get her into bed, but as I went to mount her I felt a searing pain. That was the beginning of the end for my frenulum. Bleeding all over her bed sheets, I was too embarrassed and in too much pain to continue.
Memories; some more pleasant than others. ‘Never stop the action - keep it up, keep it up. Love to the rhythm, slave to the rhythm.’
The burning-hot African sun is momentarily diffused by swaying palm fronds as I scroll through the tracks on my iPod and select George Michael’s Father Figure. With my eyes concealed behind dark sunglasses I look on admiringly as ‘Brigitte’ applies a fresh coat of sun cream to the warm, yielding flesh of her curvy figure. Lust seeps from her pores like sweat. Perfect skies, perfect breasts and thighs… What more could a man ask for? Meanwhile, in the shallow end, three young Arabs are hitting on a six-year-old Irish lass; her mother too busy with a Jackie Collins and nicotine fix to notice.
Over the years, dear old George has made quite a few cameo appearances in my sex life. In 1987 I was bedding an Oriental flower at the same time he was playing Mister Heterosexual with make-up artist Kathy Jeung. While George’s Chinese girlfriend went on to appear in the video to his hit song I Want Your Sex, mine appeared only in a couple of homemade films. Yim wasn’t big on intercourse but made up for it in other ways. Were I to suggest a song to accompany our video it would be called I Want Your Oral Sex.
Back in the 80’s I seemed able to be fashionable without even trying. I was savouring the pleasures of an aspiring Swiss-German model named Yasmin a full two years before Simon Le Bon’s coupling with miss Parvaneh. At 6ft, my young would-be matched me inch for inch in more ways than one. Boy was she hungry like the wolf. She made another fine addition to my growing library of girls on film.
I turn up the volume on my iPod; mixed with the sound of splashing water, George’s voice has an almost hypnotic effect.
‘That's all I wanted - something special, something sacred…’ All I want is to brighten up my holiday with a bit of fine French. I’m not looking for a meaningful relationship with Brigitte, nothing heavy. All I want to do is fuck her, long and hard until she screams. There’s something quite erotic about the tear-filled eyes of a young girl. This one looks to be about fifteen. No matter. She’s got a woman’s body so, as far as I’m concerned, that makes her fair game. And what a body! She really is in great shape; long legs, shapely hips, tight waist and those oh so ample breasts. The girl’s fit, and some day she’s going to make some lucky guy extremely happy; so why the hell shouldn’t that guy be me?
‘For just one moment, to be bold and naked at your side…’ Does it really matter whether she loses her virginity to a fifteen-year-old or a forty-five-year-old? To me it matters not. Whilst for her? The end result is the same - pop goes her cherry - excepting, of course, that she’ll be getting the benefit of my vast wealth of experience. She won’t be the first or last. I’ve broken the hearts of many a young virgin. And non, je ne regrette rien. Who knows, with kids these days rutting like mongrels on heat, it’s possible she’s already been introduced to the ways of carnal gratification; in which case I will be doing no more than furthering her education.
‘I will be your father figure, put your tiny hand in mine. I will be your preacher teacher, anything you have in mind…’ I will become tutor to a yearning pupil, instructing her in every delicious debauchery her mind can imagine. And more. Because with experience comes exquisite sensitivity.
‘But sometimes love can be mistaken for a crime…’ A crime? Can my intentions really be considered criminal? Worldwide, the age of consent ranges from as low as twelve to as high as twenty-one. If the world’s leaders can’t agree on what’s right and what’s wrong then why should I be held responsible for a few minor indiscretions? As far as I’m concerned, sex is sex, and as for it being illegal… well it all depends on where you happen to find yourself at any given moment. Why should I give a damn if she’s under age? I’ve got an erection that needs some TLC. Someone send for a night nurse.
‘If you ever hunger - hunger for me. Whatever you ask for, that's what I'll be…’ Experience isn’t the only weapon in my armoury, there’s my charm, wit, and swarthy good looks. And, if all else fails, the adroit palming of Special K into a cocktail usually has the desired effect. Not that It’ll be necessary with this one. She’s definitely putting out all the right signals and really couldn’t make it any more obvious that she’s up for it.
‘Greet me with the eyes of a child - heaven is a kiss and a smile. I'll be your daddy…’
In the evening, the palm fronds frame a sunset sky where the clouds are pink candyfloss; I imagine her placing the sticky threads between her succulent lips. I try to masturbate; but I’m too worked up and can’t climax. After twenty minutes I feel a migraine coming on and so resign myself to fitful sleep; wherein I seduce a raven-haired temptress who I vaguely recall from somewhere in my past.
‘Sometimes I think that you’ll never understand me…’

Written by Phil (6963 comments posted) 13th September 2008 | Bold effort - especially as it's written in the first person. There's something uncomfortable about reading something like this as 'I.' It doesn't so much explore ideas as present one POV. Not sure if the reader was supposed to think that the MC was bigging himself up - or all he memories were of real events. While the piece moved forwards quite well, I felt there was a lack of narrative focus - drive. Unusual for you. Glad I read it. You're right - some probably will be offended. For me, it's a piece of fiction. While some things can be unpleasant, nothing is out of bounds purely because of what it is. Treatment is important. This did sail a little close to the wind. Not because of subject matter but because the description of the child was in the first person and there is no judgement made - it is entirely from the MC's point of view. Some readers look for the writer to moralise in some way. Sometimes it can be appropriate, sometimes not. While I've admitted to being uncomfortable, it does have the effect of forcing the reader to think for themselves for a change. (Rather than relying on the media to form their opinions for them, for example.) I'm not sure how authentic this actually was. I have little idea of how the minds of abusers work. Interesting read. Phil | wambam Written by owl_light (55 comments posted) 13th September 2008 | paragraph about Michael needs more explanation to be comprehended unless your target audience is very narrow. The philosophy here is a bit like the bonobo chimpanzees'. If indeed a chimpanzee can philosophise. I like the fact that you refer to the amazingly sexual modern lyrics which encourage sexual thoughts. They are deemed OK yet the behaviour of the singers is put under a microscope. You haven't mentioned any of the female sirens such as are available to watch any time on the freeview girlsgirlsgirls. I think you should include some of this to further the point you are making. And if anyone should look over your shoulder as you sit watching with awful cramp in your wrist, blame owl_light. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 14th September 2008 | Phil, thanks (as always) for taking the time to read and comment. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 14th September 2008 | …Owl light, (again) thanks for the read and review, but you really do need to allow a story time to develop. This is merely the opening salvo and are random ‘flash’ memories. The initial scene lasts no more than a few minutes (the end of Slave to the Rhythm and then Father Figure - about 8 minutes?). In time we will see our hero consider things like internet porn, the page 3 culture, natural/physical sexual maturity verses rational/intellectual sexual maturity. It will be interesting to see what potential material I can glean from the reviews. Phil has already used the word ’Abuser’. Scholars believe that at the age of 12, Tutankhamun married Ankhesenamun (possibly his half-sister) conceiving two children - both stillborn. And the crowds still flock to see the exhibits relating to this paedophile/abuser without a second thought. Attitudes change with time. Interesting stuff.

| Written by wltshr (352 comments posted) 15th September 2008 | How interesting. Even to comment on this leaves one open to be interpreted as a pervert. It's very strange how the media confuses hebephilia and paedophilia. Most kids, boys certainly, start noticing the opposite sex, or the same sex, in early teens. The object of their desire is often of a similar age. Does what people find sexy really change so much over the years? A little uncomfortable generally, but only because of current mores; until your "hero" suggested using drugs on his intended, then a completely different and more sinister side was exposed. A brave start. Not sure where you're taking this. Regards Wltshr | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 15th September 2008 | Hello Tony, it’s nice to hear from you again after all this time. If: Even to comment on this leaves one open to be interpreted as a pervert, then imagine what it must do for the author! Yes, it is strange how the media confuse hebephilia and paedophilia, but then your average Sun reader only understands two words, and the other one is TITS. I’m not sure where I’m taking this either, or, indeed, if I will take it. I’ll wait and see what noises are made. Cheers | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 15th September 2008 | Brett, I’m not certain that I set out with the intention of being offensive, but I do accept that it could be considered as such by some readers. As with Hell’s Angel (currently withdrawn from GW), this is purely a vehicle with which to attack hypocrisy. In HA it was the hypocrisy (IMO) of the world’s religions; while in this it is the hypocrisy of not only the media but of society in general. All the media and public seem interested in is a headline. ‘Pervy Paedophile Teacher Pumps Pretty Polly!’ is so much more exciting than ‘Fifteen-year-old Willy shoves his willy in!’ But while the parents are reading headlines and tut-tutting like good little members of society, what are their little angels getting up to? Reuters: June 19, 2008 - The number of abortions among under 14s rose by more than a fifth last year, one of the biggest increases in terminations across ALL age groups. The total number of abortions carried out on girls too young to legally have sex rose 10 percent to 4,376. According to The Daily Telegraph: Figures from the World Health Organisation indicate that more children are having sex in Britain than in any other European country. In England 40% of girls and 39.4% of boys have underage sex. The new figures build on mounting criticism of the Government’s failing attempts to curb levels of teenage pregnancy, with many suggesting that its sex education policies encourage promiscuity among young people. But taking the conversation back to hebephilia, a man in Britain has consensual sex with a girl who is 15 years and eleven months old and then, fearing legal repercussions, jets off to Spain where he has sex with a girl who is thirteen years and one month old. In Britain he is considered an abuser of children, whilst in Spain he’s a bloke getting his jollies with a young woman. Morals change from country to country, yet we are (in theory, and according to the PC brigade) all the same beast regardless of our place of birth. So who is wrong and who is right? And why do the government not convict underage children when they indulge in underage sex? So far, my vehicle appears to be serving its purpose. All the best, Steve.
| Written by cheryl1984 (13 comments posted) 16th September 2008 | This piece was very uncomfortable for me. The part that struck me is how much thought you have put into this. When I write I try and put myself in the mindframe of the character. I could never, and certainly would never try, to put myself in the mindframe of paedophile! Its something that I cant contemplate. I'm well aware that teenagers have sex with other teenagers under the legal age but there is a vast difference between kids being kids and old men letching over kids. Please bear in mind that I am only 24 and as not as wise to the world as many of you. But for me a paedophile is a paedophile - whether they are a famous pop star, Tutankhamun or anyone! They should all be hung out by the knackers and left to die a slow and painful death.
| Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 16th September 2008 | Hello Cheryl, thank you for reading and bothering to take the time to leave some feedback. It goes without saying that a difficult subject like this requires that a good deal of thought be put into it before finger touches keyboard. I worked out some rough notes over a period of two weeks before coming up with an initial draft (minus the lyrics and memories) that I, upon reading it back, felt was far too one dimensional. It was then that I decided on adding the lyrics and memories to give the character some form of background; albeit that, so far, it is fragmented and non-linear. I feel that I need to make it clear that the character is not (and will not become) a paedophile. He has been, and will continue to be, a hebephile. However, sex with an adolescent (pubescent as opposed to pre-) is not necessarily his sexual preference it is, as he has already stated, all just fair game. Tutankamun was not a paedophile (hebephile) in the place and time in which he lived. Jerry Lee Lewis was a hebephile in the UK but not in Spain. Would you consider Michael Douglas an old lecher? Where and when do you draw the line? And who decides? Physically the human body can be ready to breed from as young an age as ten, so, if you are one of the faithful (which, I hasten to add, I am not) you could argue that God set the age of lawful sex at ten. However, there’ll be no argument from me on the idea that paedophiles (in the true meaning of the word) should all be hung out by the knackers and left to die a slow and painful death. Best wishes, Steve. | Written by chrismorton (65 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | No I don’t think this should be in non-fiction. Mainly for descriptions such as: ““dark” “seductive” eyes and “sensuous lips”” “perfect body” (what is a perfect body?) And then he oh so conveniently selects George Michael’s Father Figure on his I-pod. Please. I don’t know… I just feel like if you are going to write something like this you have to decide on your character – like, is he a bit fucked up or does he simply find younger girls more attractive – and then go all the way. It feels a little half-hearted to me. (no offense, I just think that you’re becoming blinded by worrying about the subject matter and as a result the writing is of lesser quality)
| Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | Hello Chris, thanks for the read. * No I don’t think this should be in non-fiction. That was a tongue-firmly-in-cheek statement aimed at some of our infantile members who are prone to infantile remarks. * “perfect body” (what is a perfect body?). Beauty is in the eye… perfect in his mind (which is where we are). * And then he oh so conveniently selects George Michael’s Father Figure on his I-pod. Please. Most people load I-Pods with their favourite music. It was a considered selection rather than a convenience. * It feels a little half-hearted to me. Perhaps I’m overly concerned about the subject matter. If I continue with it I‘ll try and beef it up a bit for you. I have decided on a character profile but felt it unnecessary to reveal all in the first few hundred words. It's nice to see this work attracting reviews from people I've not heard from before, and interesting that some of the old faithfuls seem to be shying away. All the best, Steve. | Written by Asferthecat (859 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | I don't think this is about paedophilia. A paedophile would no longer be attracted to a child once its sexual development starts to take place. I suspect alot of people we think of as paedophiles (eg Gary Glitter) are just attracted to nubile women, however young. Society has begun a stupid witch hunt, which will probably be regarded in retrospect as stupid as the one against homosexuals. This seems to be more about a rapacious sexual predator and is, as always a good read, but hardly as original as your other works - unless something very different is going to happen.

It was a bold effort and well [if a little too sketchily] written. That for me was the problem. I would have liked you to go more into his mind, revealing motivation, agenda, his psychological make up, and as we don’t really know his age, his sexual maturity is in question. In my social work days I met a couple of paedophiles and this doesn’t really fit the profile [you will be very pleased to hear :-)] I thought you were getting close with one sentence “She’s making it perfectly clear that she wants me”. But you didn’t capitalise on it. It’s the odd paradox that they can never quite clear in their minds and leads to paranoia and a persecution complex. I was hoping from your pre-amble that this would be an attack on the stupidity and hypocrisy of the media in relation to paedophilia [to the point where a Paediatric nurse was attacked] but it appeared to be just the ramblings of a rather unpleasant individual of indeterminate age. You may tell me I read it all wrong and explain my shortcomings as a critic but that is how it appeared to me without the benefit of prior explanation Cheers jane | I'm with Brett Written by zmbbw (22 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | It's not really that interesting on any level. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | Jane, thanks for reading and offering a considered review. “You may tell me I read it all wrong and explain my shortcomings as a critic.” Not at all. I feel that, with the subject matter involved, all comment on the subject is worthy of consideration. “I would have liked you to go more into his mind, revealing motivation, agenda, his psychological make up…” All in good time, but first I’ve got to put myself in his mind. “We don’t really know his age.” He’s 45. As disclosed in the line: ‘What difference does it make if she loses her virginity…’ “His sexual maturity is in question.” Ho kidding! “ ‘She’s making it perfectly clear that she wants me’. But you didn’t capitalise on it.” And neither did he as it was all in his mind; hence the reason that he resorts to playing (unsuccessfully) Napoleon Solo. “I was hoping from your pre-amble that this would be an attack on the stupidity and hypocrisy of the media…” That’s part of the way in which (if I continue with it) the story will develop; only the argument/attack will be from the POV of the character. All the best, Steve. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | Turk, thanks for reading and commenting. “It's not only men who go in for hebejebe, yet it's always dirty old man rather than dirty old woman!” I take your point, but on the whole there would appear to be (if you judge it on cases reported in the media) more dirty old men than dirty old women. Regards, Steve. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | Hello Puss, it’s always nice to hear from your good self. “I suspect a lot of people we think of as paedophiles are just attracted to nubile women, however young.” Yes, but then the media and the law step in and get it all wrong. Men and women taken to task over having sex with a pubescent are still accused of paedophilia; which, of course, it isn’t. “Society has begun a stupid witch hunt…” Possibly misguided or ill considered as opposed to stupid. There does need to be some form of protection for the young; if only from themselves. On that note, I was today granted the privilege of watching Alan Titchmarsh discussing vibrators with one of his ‘expert’ guests at 3:45 in the afternoon. Just the sort of time that kids will be returning from school. Whatever happened to children’s TV? “Hardly as original as your other works…” I’ve killed a fair few priests and prostitutes in my time and fancied a bit of a change. However, there is one point worth clearing up. “Not sure if the reader was supposed to think that the MC was bigging himself up - or all his memories were of real events.” His memories are very much real events from his past. This is a man who, in his day, was very (successfully) sexually active. However, time has caught up on him and he hasn’t quite got his head around the fact that young girls/women generally don’t fancy older men. Although hasn’t Michael Douglas done well for himself! All the best, Steve. | Written by Emmuttmax (203 comments posted) 17th September 2008 | Hi Steve, Lots of interesting commentary on your piece, with "uncomfortable" being a main theme of many readers. Personally, I like "uncomfortable" stories if they are well written. So far, yours is. Many great writers got their reputations by addressing uncomfortable subjects; "Lolita" comes to mind. I read the piece as part of something larger, and thought is was a good way to enter dangerous territory. Although you may have something completely different in store, may take on the character was a man who is losing his power, not just his power to attract women, but the power of youth in a youth-obsessed culture. I doubt there are many men who have not had a carnal thought or two upon gazing on a youthful beauty. Some become fixated and dangerous; for others, it is merely a pleasant and brief thought. I do admire your willingness to explore this character within the current societal mind frame. | Written by cheryl1984 (13 comments posted) 18th September 2008 | I see your point of view and perhaps paedophile was too harsh of a word....just letch then. | Written by stevetroster (1600 comments posted) 19th September 2008 | Mike, thanks for dropping in. Your take on the character was pretty much what I was aiming at; although there's always the possibility that I might put a sting in the tail, and it was nice to receive further comment on the writing as opposed to the content. Asferthecat mentioned a witch hunt and I wonder if you or anyone else from the ‘colonies’ would care to comment on how sex with young people is dealt with in your country. What is the law with respect to age and how do they deal with it? Are the media on a witch hunt? All the best, Steve. | Written by Emmuttmax (203 comments posted) 20th September 2008 | Steve, in the "colonies,"I think sex with anyone is a societal taboo. We seem to love our violence, but when it comes to sex, we prefer to believe it doesn't exist. In most cases, sexual relations with minors (under 1 is dealt with harshly (prison time) unless you happen to be rich or a politician. Although I believe there are some 17-year-old kids mentally mature enough to engage in sex, anyone less than that age should limit sexual experimentation to partners their own age. Sure, there are plenty of sexy, attractive young women (and men if you go that way) who may be sexually ripe and look much older. However, I don't think they are prepared to deal with an older person both mentally and emotionally. That, of course, is a general statement, but where do you draw the line? I must admit to having strong feelings about men who prey on young girls. My daughter was sexually abuse by her stepfather for several years beginning when she was six. I didn't find out about it until she came to live with me when she was in high school. My first reaction was to kill the son of a bitch, or, at the very least, bust his kneecaps (hey, we love our violence), but Mrs. Em talked me out of it, pointing out I would probably do a little jail time should I follow through. The guy never went to jail, but he had to fork over money for my daughter's counseling and health insurance. My ex finally believe my daughter and divorced the scumbag. My daughter has come through the experience in good shape, and today she runs a successful business and has three kids of her own. I think anyone who f a child or animal--those who depend on us and trust us the most--should be removed from society for long periods of time or permanently. This probably didn't answer all your questions, but at least it gave me a chance to rant. Peace, Mike

I know that, were I ever to be put in the same situation, my reaction would be exactly the same as yours - although it’s unlikely I’d have the gumption to stop myself dealing with it locally. In the past I’ve had reason to take the law into my own hands - we Brits like our violence too. The law here works too slowly and tends to favour the guilty. To say that the law is an ass is being unkind to the dumb ass. Re: The GW package (for some reason) will oft replace an (.8.) with a face - although, in this instance, given the subject matter, perhaps it could have been kinder. And, given your strong feelings about the (misinterpreted) subject matter of my story, you of all people would be excused for going off on a rant. All the very best, Steve | Written by philkent (167 comments posted) 16th November 2008 | Hi Steve, late to this one I'm afraid. No the subbject matter of this piece did not disturb me. It didn't feel like you set out to shock or exploit. I felt it was an honest attempt at getting into the mind of a certain type of adult - not a peadophile -but someone who goes beyond feeling the natural attraction most men would feel for a young nubile women, regardless of the legality. To me the mc is a flawed individual who's insecurity and inability to sustain adult relationships means they are drawn to and exclusively target vulnerable, underage victims. IMO a lot of these so called dirty old men - and women - are people feeding a need for power and control and having their egos sated. Easy to impress a teenager, not so easy to wow a thirty-five year old, world weary divorcee after all. Having done my turn on the scene, I saw more than a few of these inter generational relationships, almost always unhealthy and doomed as they were built on very dodgy motivations and needs. Therefore I see there's an argument for drawing a line, an age of consent. Even if society does tend to be hypocritical. Just to make things even more uncomfortable I'll add that the explotaion isn;t always from the older person either. it was certainly well written, engaging if frank. The narrative flowed and I felt drawn into this seedy little world that the mc inhabited from the word go. You have a talent for original and thought provoking work Steve. Just my two peenorth worth.
