A Perfect Juxtaposition
By Kezzi

Juxtaposition ~ noun
[1.] An act or instance of placing close together or side by side opposing objects or ideas, esp. for comparison or contrast.
[2.] The state of being close together or side by side.

This is a snippet of poetry I managed to squeeze out of myself between college assignments.
The layout is a bit iffy because the format came out rather...asymmetrical. xD Lots of varying sentence structures. Hope you like it, anyway!

A Perfect Juxtaposition

I thoroughly hate loving you.

      Your heart is a perfectly-carved stone;
      Set deep into your chest, soft as granite.

      I grip you gently with angels’ claws;
      Icy breath scorching your warm, shivering skin.

      Your hard topaz eyes shimmer liquidly;
      Evaporating my soul with their numbing heat.

Together we fall upwards, drowning in the very air that whistles past our entwined, separate bodies.

      Your moist lips deliver a dry kiss upon mine;
      I can live neither with nor without you, my sweet oxymoron.

You and I;
      A perfect juxtaposition.

The phrase 'soft as granite' I really like! And 'my sweet oxymoron' is a good phrase.

Unfortunately I felt that the rest of the poem carried no weight (unlike myself). Only my humble opinion, you understand.

I also don't think there was any need for an introduction to the word 'juxtaposition.'

Cheers
It lives as its title suggests......

Actually, I like the constant juxtaposition you get into lines throughout this poem. soft/granite, icy/scorching, warm/shivering, hard eyes shimmering, moist lips/dry kiss etc.

Like Brett, "soft as granite" hit me extremely well.

totally free form structure works to keep it loose.

I may not be any sort of poet....but I thought this was both well delivered and interesting.
