Fairy Tale Diet

"I must go on a diet! I just can't get in my jeans,

in fact if I had yours as well, I'd struggle at the seams.

I just don't understand it, I eat everything that's pure,

no doctor would dispute my healthy menu I'm quite sure.

"Though of course on Sunday, I must have my Sunday roast,

but no-one would deny me that, the meal I love the most!

Just to counteract it, I have little for my lunch,

BLT in bread and spread, a 'healthy' thing to munch.

"Ah, of course there's Friday, well it simply must be fish.

It wouldn't be a Friday if I served a different dish.

It's not my fault I don't like steamed, it really must be fried

and then of course it must be chips, with bread roll on the side.

"Monday would be salad, if it wasn't shepherds pie,

there must be butter in the mash, or else of course, it's dry.

A bit of cheese goes on the top, there is no other way

and after all from one whole week, it's only just one day!

"Tuesday, that's a meat pie, so much energy within,

I need the carb's to keep me going, that can't be a sin!

Wednesday is a saving grace, it's chilli on white rice,

it's full of sauce and chilli beans but still, it's very nice.

"Thursday, well that's sausages, the butchers' very best,

they can't have too much fat, he says they're better than the rest.

Well that just leaves us Saturday and Saturday is curry,

served with rice and chutney and so quick if you must hurry.

"So you see, there is no source of fat, of which to speak,

if there's a naughty dish, I only have it ONCE a week.

I shall soldier on, in self denial, not complain,

although the scales are saying I weigh more or just the same.

"Maybe if I don't lose weight when one more month has gone,

I'll ditch the salt and pepper and just try to soldier on!

... in diet is a wonderful thing

I know -- I have been a food fantasist in calorie and carbohydrate counting , sugar selectivity and so on for yonks.

It did once drop me a couple of stone courtesy of dieting for a heart attack but .....

Well written

Thank you so much for you kind comments, it does seem to me that we all tend to 'kid' ourselves sometimes when we claim to diet. As you say, occasionally we do it seriously but a lot of the time I think it's more in the mind. :grin

Oh, that strikes a chord!

...though I do try to restrict my dietary badnesses to days when I'm doing something strenuous to make up for it.

I like this one. It's a conventional sort of structure which makes for an easy flow and an enjoyable progression through the week.

Good fun!

An amusing ditty, Pam, one that I sympathize - a eat healthily, exercise, yet I'm as fat as failed bulemic Whale (between you and me, I think it might be down to the Guinness).
And you're right - there is no other way to make Shepherd's pie!
Cheers

Wednesday won't be saving you in a hurry - not on this diet at any rate! Ha! Ha!

A brilliantly put together piece - love it!

I recently lost three stone, despite being unable to exercise due to ill health. I don't believe in diets as who wants to be on a diet the rest of their life!

I really liked the poem and the mentality behind it is true in more cases than I'd like to think! It had a nice fairly smooth rhythm and I felt with each stanza I was left wanting to read more! It really made me laugh! Perhaps you should try sending it to a womens magazine, though I know very little of what sells, it may be worth a try!

Best wishes

Hi everyone,

thank you so much for all your lovely comments and it's wonderful to know that this situation isn't an isolated one.

Like you Aurora, I can't exercise due to disability and I have to say dieting is not my favourite word but eating is such a lovely passtime and the odd drink is rather nice too. It's not guiness Brett but I don't think that makes much difference. :grin

Thank you ainsel, John and all, I'm so pleased this 'struck a chord.';)

warmest wishes, Pamx
