Rudyard Kipling
said "Young man, you are crippling
poetics." I challenged him forthwith
"Smart arse, write something profound, pivoting on 'ifs'."
Wild William Butler
soothed cut-throats (sparing jugulars)
his honeyed verses proved so much
that they nodded by the fire with his book.
Dylan Thomas,
before taken from us,
confessed what made his head swell;
his existential villanelle.
Seamus Heaney
charged to free me
of strict metrical verse.
Of course the tight bastard won't reimburse. |
Great fun! Written by Katanga (3563 comments posted) 16th February 2009 | Much enjoyed, especially your last two stanzas! Sorry, but do you mean 'he' for 'his' in stanza two, or am I being typically dense? Ho ho! Cheers! John | Written by Phil (8637 comments posted) 16th February 2009 | Much enjoyed. Living, Not Very Poetic Clerihew Society Pam Eyes Could never make the hairs Stand up on the back of my neck. Could she 'eck. Frank Spencer, A reject from Mensa, Rhymed lines pathetic For outcomes bathetic. Sorry, just a pathetic reaction. I struggled to think of any more crap rhymsters - except for Wordsworth - and that might be like sticking it to god in poetic circles. I enjoyed these. I like the freedom of form clerihews offer. Hope these unblock! Phil | Thanks John and Phil. Written by Brett (2373 comments posted) 16th February 2009 | John - I hope that line makes more sense now. Phil - Liked yours. I should point out that Heaney is in fact still alive. As for attacking Wordsworth, why not, we think nothing of sticking it to god in religious circles! Cheers | Wow Brett Written by grace (291 comments posted) 17th February 2009 | perfectly brilliant! So original and with a humour that I suspect they would all appreciate in spite of it being at their expense. You do have a wonderful talent for the unexpected, thank you for a great read, Pamx | My thanks to Written by Brett (2373 comments posted) 20th February 2009 | John, Phil, and Pam - you must have dreary lives to take time out to review these (but then what does that say about mine?) - glad you did though. I often find myself doodling clerihews when struggling with another piece. Cheers | HI Brett Written by jean.day (2844 comments posted) 5th March 2009 | I know nothing abouat clerihews - and it seems that part of my education is sadly lacking - as they look like a lot of fun. I enjoyed this - and felt it was very clever. |
