Another one for Veronica's 'Virtual Competition'.
Bottoms, not politics, are my forte - please forgive!
Tolstoy in Paradise X
These Foolish Things
I've done some truly stupid things today.
I must have lost my common sense, it's true,
but now I'm glad I did them anyway.
I asked a politician what he'd say,
were he confronted by the boys in blue.
"I've done some truly stupid things today -
I fiddled my expenses and my pay,
to con the general public (that means you),
but now I'm glad I did them anyway."
I kicked him up the arse, well out of play,
and watched him squirm without a bloody clue.
I've done some truly stupid things today.
For all these things, disaster, come what may,
will strike us down, far worse than porcine flu,
but now I'm glad I did them anyway.
Obsequious fools may genuflect and pray.
These foolish things remind me, not of you,
I've done some truly stupid things today,
but now I'm glad I did them anyway.

Bitterly funny, I prefer this to your previous (and I liked that!). Nice nod to the old song, too. Cheers |

I'm going to have to google villanelle to find out what you're all doing. I thought this was just so clever and current. You should really send this in to the Telegraph. I heard they paid a fortune for the expenses information,or maybe Private Eye. Ridicule is one of the best ways to make a point cheers jane |

| Another great villanelle, Tolstoy, and extra marks for topical content! Nice one. |
