the loveday affair Scene in very pink bedroom about 5.30 am Alarm goes off waking the woman lying in the bed: Lucy Loveday: [sleepily nudges the man lying next to her] wake up… [Long pause] ‘Harry wake up’ [Harry shows no sign of waking, Lucy’s hands fumble beneath the covers and all of a sudden Harry sits bolt upright’ Harry: uurgh Lucy: I don’t wanna rush you honey but he will be back soon, you haven’t got very long Harry: ok, ok im up, im going Lucy: I wish it didn’t have to be like this Harry, I wish we could spend more time together….like a proper couple [at these words Harry hurriedly gets out of bed and begins to dress] [Lucy looks slightly dejected; Harry gives her a slobbering kiss instead of an answer] Lucy: Harry? Harry: [in a gruff voice] Well it would be bloody better if he didn’t work nights wouldn’t it? That way I could come round here in the daytime and wouldn’t have all this getting up early nonsense. Lucy: couldn’t we arrange something, a holiday maybe, just you & me? Harry: Oh yeah & we are really gunna be able to explain that one to your husband aren’t we? You know its impossible luce, aren’t you satisfied with what we’ve got? [Lucy hesitates] Yes of course, it would be nice though you, me and a sunny beach? Harry: ummmm Lucy: I could say I was visiting my sister or something Harry: I think the tan when we get back might be a bit of a give away don’t you?! Lucy: Oh Harry be serious!! Harry: c’mon Lucy don’t start complaining lets just enjoy this while we can [Lucy goes to reply and thinks better of it] Harry: same time tomorrow? [They say goodbye, Harry starts to go out the bedroom door as Lucy peaks out the window] {Cut to outside} Mr Loveday is walking down the path to his house, Ernie goes whizzing by in the background on his milk float Lucy: It’s too late, you’re too late, his coming up the path [Lucy says in a panicked voice] Harry: Oh great, its out the window again then [doesn’t look best pleased] Lucy: Be careful! Harry: Get back in bed I’ll see you later [Lucy hurries back to bed swaps the pillows and sprays some perfume, then gets back in and feigns sleep. Mr Loveday enters the bedroom and smiles at his wife sleeping so soundly]
