Hi All,
I need some help and advice from all you writers out there!
I'd really like to write a short fictional story for a womans magazine about shoes - as its something that alot of women are passionate about! This is how I would like to start it:
"Why is it when you ask a woman what her vice is, she always says handbags or shoes? I know women who will beg, steal and borrow if it meant getting there hands on that pair of stilletoes that continuously shouts out there name every time they walk past the window display. I know, because im one of those women........"
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can develop, im thinking hard but I think I might have writers block on this one!
Appreciate some help,
Natalie

'Women like shoes' isn't much of a theme. Shoes is such a vague subject. You need to chunk down to the specific. You need a character first and situation where shoes are involved. Is it shoes in general or a specific pair? Keep asking yourself questions till you get answers that interest you and build the story up BTW it's' their' not 'there' cheers jane | Written by coosh (1156 comments posted) 23rd September 2009 | You’ve already started the idea with “beg, steal or borrow” and “shoes” – so, as Jane says, you need specifics. What and how. Is she going to find a billionaire and tickle his credit rating? Or maybe a dilemma - she’s going to have her feet amputated. Or she buys endlessly and ends up broke… Finds herself in Stilettoholics Anonymous… Or maybe there’s a gang of armed women stuck in Miu Miu, unable to leave without emptying the entire shop – the longest robbery in the history of footwear (there’s bound to be some bloke stuck there waiting in the getaway van). | Written by Ted_Iberrz (22 comments posted) 24th September 2009 | It's not stilletoes either. Ask yourself why you are one of those women, why do you consider it a vice, is there some sort of guilt attached to buying shoes, etc. Write some ideas out without thinking too much about it and see where it takes you. | Different peopple, different shoes. My take on it would be "What kind of person wears what kind of shoes?" Apollogies! From my childhood I would associate Doc Martens with trouble-makers, and from the jokes, white stilletoes with "Essex girls". Obviously this is not necessarily true! But what kind of woman wears Red shoes/Gladiator sandals/Gingham pumps???
