Myth... Not religion...

Shadows on the wall of her cave. Clouds drifted by from the east, from the garden. She spat at them, she spat at the garden and cursed the place and all that lived in it.
" Man!", she cried out, " I shall have my revenge..."
She stepped away from the sunlight and sat down in the darkness. She hated him! He should have come after her, but instead he had cursed her; If it wasn't for the angel, she wouldn't have lasted longer than a few days.
She crept into a corner and cursed the one she was created for.
" Night?"
His voice was sweet and strong, and when she looked up, she saw his him against the entrance of the cave, a slender, yet muscular silhouette. He folded his wings and entered. Night crouched towards him and clenched his calves. She pressed her lips against his feet and wept.
" Save some of that for what is still to come, for they have only just learned what suffering is. They wished knowledge of good and evil? So they shall have it."
" Oh", Night cried out," Vengeance is sweet!"
" Vengeance is neither sweet, nor bitter. Man should not have taken my place, but now that he did, he too has fallen..."
" And he cursed me!"
" And now doom is brought upon him by the one who took your place. Her sin shall be upon his tribe. Did you ever bring him such suffering, Night?"
" Will he come back to me?"
" No..."
" And will the curse be lifted off me?"
" No... But you shall have his eldest son and be dreaded by the woman's daughters."
" But the curse..."
" He shall reap what he sowed. The woman's daughters shall fear you."
" And his sons?"
" You shall have of them what Man refused you. Your vengeance will be complete..."
" And yours?"
" They will learn about good and evil... Eventually."

Starts with Plato's shadows, but is almost a parody of Nietzsche (could relate something funny regarding a philosophy tutor from Newcastle that I met, but won't here).

I think 'from the east' is probably significant here, and though the idea entertaining I must confess that I thought a lot of the dialogue over-dramatic (ironic I hope?).

Cheers

Wow this is just far too enigmatic for me.This is text book enigmatic myth making. I loved the dialogue, just the right side of camp and full of melodrama. I won't pretend to understand what's going on but it was gloriously over the top as all good myths and legends should be.
Have you ever thought of starting a religion?
:grin :grin

Thanks Brett and Jane,
Perhaps it'd help if I said the two characters are Lillith and Lucifer? Lucifer was replaced by Adam, Lillith was replaced by Eve, thus the 'fall of Man' would be a sweet revenge for both of them.

I'm probabl too thick to fully 'get' this, but I enjoyed the raw, almost sexual energy of it.

I was rather proud of myself, as I did get quite a bit of this. But it was a powerfully written myth. Well done to you.

1st reading - was confused but like the dark feel to the story

2nd reading - as above

I then read your comments and it made a lot more sense.

3rd reading - enjoyed a lot more but still a little confused.

Can you explain it to me in a few words, please? I did try to understand it. I may enjoy it much more if I can get an idea about its theme.

Thanks Otilia and Mermaid.
It probably depends on how well one knows the stories around the Bible. Christian mythology so to say.
Lucifer was the mightiest of angels, but he rebelled and was cast from Heaven.
Lilith was (accoring to medieval myth) Adam's first wife, but they got into a quarrel about who should lie on top and he sent her away into the desert and cursed her and her children. She in turn would avenge herself on Eve's children, and according to some she mated with Cain and became the ancestor of many demons.
Both of them had their reasons to hate Adam (and thus mankind)...
