I'm not bitter honestly.......

You look into me eyes and all you see
is a dim reflection of what you want, what you want me to be
You never knew me, you don’t know me now
Don’t ask me to explain your life
Don’t ask me why, don't ask me how
You bore me now as much as i adored you then.
I don't want to see your smug face again

I've out grown you and this stinking litte town
Don't call me anymore don't try to drag me down
Being with you was like sleeping with a knife
And this is not the end, but the start of my life
So I leave you behind on an island of your own making
While I travel cross continent on a steed of aspiration

Well, it's certainly very punchy... but can I suggest you take a look at just how many times the word "me" appears in the text?!

As an exercise: have you thought about how you might re-work the basic text of this poem without using the word "me" at all? See if you can convey exactly the same powerful emotions, use the same images, but not have the poem reflecting back on you all the time. It would be a much more original spin on the traditional angst of poetry about one's ex, and you might even feel better about the situation afterwards :)
