Chapter 6

"When she hired me I thought she said she wanted me to be her bo'guard.Sounded more like bogrard but I figures she spits it different cause she the white girl-she got class.  Bit of a jumps up for this one nigger from da likes of  bein' a security guard in da hospital portering businesss I thinks meself anyway. So I tells the lady I'm her man, she got her man. Next I know I'm in her fancy home n she's jumping up n down dissing on me n bitching all over the place telling me not to jive with her ornamentation what is everywhere. But the only shit she does with me is aks me to sit me own self down n the crazy mother is tellin me her life story .Get this - brethren. She's given me a pen n paper n that and now she only ‘specting me write it all down n read it up on back to her. She is one crazy bitch.

Stephen Nkobu-not a biographer

The Only Way I Can Do This Is In Rap

This rich white lady got me by the balls
She cut them off in the hospitals
She comes in my workplace bold as brass
And starts straight off talking out of her arse
Bout some death threat she's got's gonna make her rich
Shoulda known right there n then she was some crazy bitch
She reckons there's a job in it for me
N Takes me to the Canteen for some Tea
N her looks me up and down like she's studying me
Wants to know if I been a soldier or seen any on TV
Whether I'd fight for her, kill and whup some dude
N if I ‘d do it for money or just for some food
N She's squirming all the time over on she seat
Like Janet Jackson ‘cept her on heat
She takes my hand n holds it to her breast
N I can feel her heart beat through her chest
She askes me my name
N I tell her Steve- she says Steve, they're all after me
The establishment, super models n the French armee
I pull my hand back - tell her she's mad - barking
Outta her fukinhead-she laughs n says she's only larking
What she wants me do is me write her a book
N while I'm laughing back at her she gives a funny hurt look
She lets my hand go n I miss the attraction
So I sez I'll do it -if n I can have somma the action
I think I know what she means and she does too
So perhaps there'll be a little jigy jiggy in the human zoo
She says - there's money in it n she names a figure
Its high notes she must be pouring piss on this one black nigger
N she's getting all excited like she singing the blues
So I tells her yes, like I got nudding to lose
She says "so Steve, you'll be my biographer feller"
"S'right "I'll be your bodyguard" I recall I tell her

So now I'm installed in her fancy home
N She spends all her day on the telling phone
A clawing n a scheming n making folks sick
She's like that bunny boiler bird but with a bigger dick
N me's just like that bloke outta misery
Me Been captured with money cos she buys me a a car
Her's had my balls  - next I'll be wearing a bra
All I have to do she says is write her mad shit
I tell you man I'm fuck arse sick of it
If I don't write her crib she'll cut off my fingers
She aint said as much but she's into vengeance
N she looks mean n I aint fucking
Cant get near her not for want or lucking
Now she's got me she's the Ice queen
All prim and proper though we both know she just mean

Anyways for all her glory this is her story

S'what I can remember anyways cos she talks real fast
n if my pencil were'nt so blunt I'd stick it right up her .....

Whoa- here she comes now -she having herself a cow

She remembers the back streets of Hackney
Two children begging in rags
Each touched with a burning ambition
To shake off their lowly born tags

In da clearing stands her father
And a butcher by his trade
And he carries a reminder of every chop that hit him
and every side of beef that laid him down
‘til he cried out
in his anger and his shame

I am butchering
I am butchering

But the  Butcher still remains

Li la lie

At school they called her easy
Yes they say it's not the way for a body to be
She had joy, she had fun, she had seasons in the sun
She ran away to join a travelling show
She had to dance for the money they'd throw
Her new dad poppa would do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of doctor good
You're all Gypsies tramps and thieves
She'd hear it from the people of the town
They'd call them
Gypsies tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

Picked up a runaway  Earl  just south of Bristeel
Gave him a ride, filled him with a hot meal
she was fourteen, he was twenty one
Rode with them to Glasgow
And poppa woulda shot him if he knew what he'd done

You're all Gypsies tramps and thieves
They'ar it from the people of the town
They'd call them
Gypsies tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

Yip!
Yahoo!

After the Earl she could not contemplate ever being with another man
He told her
If I should stay
I would only be in your way.
So I'll go but I know
I'll think of you
Every step of the way.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.
You my darling you, mmm ...

Bittersweet memories,
That is all I'm taking with me.
So goodbye, please don't cry.
We both know I'm not what you, you need.

And I will always love you.
I will always love you.

Instrumental

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have
All you've dreamed of.
And I wish for you joy
And happiness.
But above all this, I wish you love.

And she said
 I will always love him.
I will always love him. (4x)
I, I will always love him.
Yes, darling I love him.
I'll always,, I'll always love him

Until.....

One night she met a rough bad sort
An Asian minicab driver with the dirtiest filthiest stained tartan cloth seats in town in his ancient Datsun bluebird

Out on the windy common
That night she ain't forgotten
When she dealt out the rations
Of some or other passion
He said " you are a lady."
"Perhaps" she said "I may be"

His mini cab was empty as he dragged her back in fright
He threw her on the back seat, slammed the door, then smashed the electric light
He said "why try to fight it"
She could hear his beating heart
Then he snuggled up like an animal and took her in the dark
He broke her bed and spent her rent
Left one night without a cent....................

Cassie was born in the wagon of a travelling show
Her momma had to dance for the money they'd throw
Grandpa'd do whatever he could
Preach a little gospel
Sell a couple bottles of doctor good

Gypsies tramps and thieves
They''d hear it from the people of the town
They'd call them
Gypsies tramps and thieves
But every night all the men would come around
And lay their money down

But then the Earl came back for her
And married her
And adopted Cassie as his own
And introduced them both into society

She would walk in to the party like she was walking on to a yacht
She had one eye in the mirror as she watched herslf go bv
Her scarf-it was apricot

She passed upon the stairs

She was the man who sold the world
The only one that could ever reach her was da son of a teacher man
Yes he was he was he was

And so she goes on

She mental or is it me
ee-rie.

I'm beginning to wonder ;)
The voice of the introduction is v.good and I like the change in perspective.
Ultimately though, the poor guy doesn't stand a chance.
