If you wish to get into the women's mags short story market - it is important to select your target market BEFORE writing your story.  Study the mag - the tone - the word count - aim to match what they are already publishing.  That way you will please the editor.  You can always contact a mag (include SAE) requesting their guidelines.

Well I tried all of that and still get rejected ho-hum
