Cut Price Offers
By Bagheera
21 April 2005

Dipped my pen in acid this morning, listening to "Today" on R4 ......

Have really, really TRIED to follow Iambic Pentameter Sonnet form this time, honest ..... !!

Cut price offers

Another week of promises has passed

We've heard each party say what they would do

"We'll spend on schools: on crime: on health:"en masse!"

But fail to add: "The bill is paid by  you"

Today is Cut Price Day, it would appear

As scanning through the headlines I can read

The Tories cut taxes: with Labour, crime disappears

The Lib Dems would cancel student tuition fees

Beware the Bargain Basement store, my friend!

Their prices are attractive, I admit

But should a fault develop you can't mend

You'll find yourself stuck with a load of worthless rubbish

Whoever wins, the future don't look bright

I'm orf: last man to leave, turn out the lights .....

Very topical

and very pithy.
My only slight issue is with the scanning in lines 3 and 4 of the second stanza which doesn't quite work, but it's a tricky subject and I like the sentiment. ;)
