Lazy Writers h/w!

The bell loudly clanging

Echoing around the class room

A note to tell everyone that its noon

Children are merrily playing

Signalling the best part of the day

To be out in the sweet fresh summer air

Swinging around on the monkey bar

Scraping your knee on the rough tar

Without a thought or a care

Sometimes netball boys v girls

Other times a fast pace game of football

Putting in all your heart and soul

Joy when the good looking boy scores a goal

Getting very muddy as you fall

Caught up in the heat and excitement

Playing kiss chase on the green

Running fast in floaty checked red dresses

Hair streaming behind in long golden tresses

Thankfully not quite yet a teen

A mixture of sounds shouting, cheering, arguing

A skipping rope game

Or clapping hands

A song that no one understands

Dreaming up fame

A regular rhythmic chant

Sitting on the yellow brick wall

Strutting around trying to look cool

Oh how much you really love school

Eating lunch in the great hall

Indulging in childish prattle

Pretending to be an exotic creature

Escaping from the wicked dinner ladies

In a world so full of maybes

Greeting your most favourite teacher

Who is trying to sneak out for a subtle fag

The lunchtime that never ends

Naming the fish in the pond

In a place of which you’re fond

Surrounded by all of your friends

Friends forever that’s what we will be

Thanks for taking me back...

I think the only thing you missed was vaporising ants with a magnifying glass...

Lovely, gentle easy reminiscence that captured so much so well

Thanks

We didn't think it was true when they said "they were the happiest days of your life" - but, on the whole they were. That's why, in retirement, I like to go back there again and join in. It's another world!

Your poem certainly made me think back to my school days, which had somethings in common with yours, but I don't think I could say they were the happiest days of my life.

Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated. Agree with your thoughts Josie!

This lazy writers task really did throw up a whole array of thoughts and i have made several poems out of the memories i have jotted down, of which this is the first. I will post them up as soon as I can although for the moment I have several essays to complete before i can get back to them!
