Letting Go
By Paige04
30 May 2006
This is the first poem I've ever written. It's dedicated to a dear friend of mine who was killed two months ago.

What do you do,
When all that you've ever known fades away?
When your yesterdays,
Seem miles away?
Where do you turn,
When the world leaves you tired and worn?
Who is to blame,
For a world that is different, yet the same?
I want to know all this,
For I am reminded of it with every kiss.
We are now worlds apart,
Yet connected by the heart.
It's hard to understand
Why I can no longer hold your hand,
Why you've disapeared,
Why you are no longer here.
Even though it makes me sad,
and extremley mad,
I know that if I love you so,
I must let you go...

The grief that you now feel can be no greater than the joy you felt when they came into your life.

What you are left with is everything that went in between. Don't let grief overstate its case.

I lost a wife through untimely death and have re-married but I dont have to forget her and haven't.

I hope this poem helps you in your time of sorrow.

Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there, I do not sleep
I am a 1,000 winds that blow
I am the diamond glints on snow
I am the sun on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain
When you awaken in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled light
I am the soft star that shines at night
Do not stand at my grave and cry
I am not there; I did not die.

Your poem was very moving, I thought it was very well written for one so young & new to poetry. You have my sympathies.

To oxy it is interesting that you should put up that poem in response, it is particulary close to my heart as after my grandmother died many years ago I found a book of her writing, and this poem was written out several times in several different versions. I have often wondered if she had actually written the poem or if she was merely playing around with the wording and personalising it.
Either way it is a beautiful poem.
Thank You

I truly love the poem that you posted, Oxy. I find it very sweet and touching. Thank you.
