The wedding day
By brook_rivers
31 May 2006
Beautiful image
Ingrained in my mind
So carefully, precisely planned

A perfect day
A passionate night
A rêve completely fulfilled

I look at you
Standing next to me
Absolutely mine,

But my smile is prevented
As I look closer
Because it isn’t true

We have talked
A hundred times
About this special day

But it has not yet happened
Nor will it ever now
It’s not meant to be

Once more the image
Is hazy, unclear, uncertain
You aren’t there anymore

We had a million
Chances to realise
The dream

i'm really rubbish at poetry, so forgive my lack of technical insight..

but i like the way you use so few words, and the three lines kind of throws the beat out, which i really, really like as well..

for me this poem describes the difference between being in love with an idea and being in love with someone.

Love comes to everyone in time, but remember as The beatles once said "Money Can't Buy Me Love"

Thank you leo and oxy for your encouraging comments!
I am glad you enjoyed the poem leo, and oxy I think you got it in one, it is about being in love with the idea of love!

There is great sadness in this poem. It starts upbeat, like a beautiful sunny day but descends into rain, and the dream is shattered.

The line: 'Nor will it ever now' - suggests something happened, a breakup, a death, and what was once planned - the wedding - would never take place. For some reason, I have the vision of the Bond's wife in his arms at the end of 'On her Majesty's Service' - chilling and deep!

Well done.
