Hide Away

I think everyone feels like this at some point, wishing those that hurt them would get hurt themselves. At the end, I'm just trying to figure out why people can be so mean. That's my theory.

You don't appear to think twice

over the pain you caused.

You don't appear to have thought once

over hurt you might be responsible for.

I don't wish to hurt anyone

but if only just once,

the one who causes me pain

feels the same way I felt

and I'm there to see it.

For a compassionate person,

I wouldn't pity them.

For once, it would be my turn

not to think twice.

Still, I don't envy them.

I would never want to be a source of pain;

to mean to somebody what they mean to me;

to leave that kind of memory.

What stuns me the most is
the courage the seem to have

to speak words that shatter the soul

but then the cowardice they show,

never looking in your eyes again...

maybe for fear they'd find themselves,

find, in the hurt, the part that they'd avoided

but always resort to for acceptance,

for popularity, for friendships with those

like they are themselves,

each other helping the other hide away.

Enjoyed this one as well, you've isolated a very specific issue/set of thoughts/emotions
