An Ode to Johnny Cash
By tartqueen
02 June 2006
Just got a new Johnny Cash Cd for my birthday and it inspired me to write this poem.

When my life gets too ordinary
And I feel like doing something rash,
I rummage through my CD collection
And listen to Johnny Cash.

He was not slick and sophisticated
Or trendy and flash.
He was brutally honest his whole life;
Just being Johnny Cash.

With a face made out of granite
And a tongue like a lash,
He dominated with his dignity.
"Hello.  I'm Johnny Cash."

Johnny Cash was genius - pure and simple. His covers of some more contemporary songs are unbeatalbe - Hurt, Personal Jesus for two.

Not a man to take lightly.

The line 'dominated with his dignity' was particularly apt...

And i agree 'Hurt' is a special recording.. and ,Sunday morning coming down does it for me

Thanks for the poem
