Drowning

I look all around me
The sea of unknown
With me in the middle
All alone

I am aware of many hands
Stretched towards me
But however much I try
I can’t grasp them

There is a blur of faces
I can’t see clearly
The sickly feeling of
Ice sliding down my back

I gasp for air
I fight the inevitable
Desperate to draw breath
To feel alive again

I can feel the bitter, salty water
Washing over my body
Stinging my deep wounds
And slapping me in the face

I know what’s happening
And I can’t seem stop it
There is nothing to hold onto
To prevent it

I am drowning

You've captured the feeling of hopelessness beautifully. The inevitability of the person's demise. This is a stunning piece of work, and something that is difficult to read without getting a lump in one's throat.

Morbid but magnificient!

best wishes
