Conversation with a Philosophical Pig

Remembering always that Poetic prose is always preferable to prosaic poetry

I won't stand in your sunlight ,
I could not throw shadows on a cave wall for you.

Was that an appreciative grunt ?

Here you seem to be settled in your own existence,
Thinking no doubt that if it's not fully Dionysian,
at least it doesn't suffer Apollonian rigours;
and I hear your snorts confirm
that you appreciate the pleasure of the mud.

I know that I am seeing you and thinking
and therefore that I am,
( Do you think that what I am is open to speculation? )

However I do know this ,
that this rail is cutting into my arms as I lean upon it,

But I can can bear the pain with fortitude.

I certainly do not need to kick it .
I know that the rail is there ,
not just in my mind or the mind of God.

Please don't shake your ears.

My words do really have a meaning
And I cannot see a refutation issuing from you.

Remembering that everything is fire and flux ,
and that your good and mine are referential,

If I myself exist tomorrow

I'll see you for breakfast .

very cleverly done I liked the way you played around with I think therefore I am and your setting was an appropriate inclusion of Plato's allegory of the cave! I really like the idea behind this poem.

This is just great, a pig dwelling on anthropic considerations...I think that your prose, the knitting together of the philosophical with the real...

"I know that I am seeing you and thinking
and therefore that I am," and

"that this rail is cutting into my arms as I lean upon it,"

...is just brilliant, and evokes the mindset of a pig, as a pig, we believe, would think.

And the last line added the touch of humour this poem demanded.

well done
