A rhyme I whipped out about 15 years ago. I have no idea what inspired it but it must have meant something to me at the time, because it's not my usual effort (i.e. it doesn't look like it was because someone dumped me :) ).

At somepoint I keep promising I'll write some new material but I'm just lazy!

Quick old Nick woke up one day
Feeling sprightly and gay
“To break my fast I want a soul…
…his’ll do, heat up the coal”
He came quickly to my front door
Wiped it up and spoke once more
“I’ll give you all you want, OK?”
My answer true was blunt just ‘Nay’!

He grinned and further did he tempt
But along came n’angel, heaven sent
“I’ll save you pledge your soul to me…
… join serene eternity”

“Serenity I would find boring”
I said as angel nodded snoring
“Nor good nor evil is my way”
I pointed out my soul in sway

“Refuse his pansy sleep sublime”
Said Satan “take my pen and sign”
I said “My soul means more in life…
…this game you play causes nowt but strife!”

“I decide my life, my choice…
…further now both heed my voice”
“I’ve a busy day with things to do…
… get the f*** out both of you!”

Lucifer scowled and disappeared
With a loud ‘harrumph’ his space was cleared
The angel stayed and had a biscuit
Would have stayed for another but dared not risk it

Fate will see which path I chose
Until that time I’ve nowt to lose
I may give in to temptation or sometimes not
I learn in life I earn my lot

I ponder often on what to do

When doubts assail: what is true?

Be good and pure for no-one else

Save right and wrong for just yourself
