A football chant inspired my patriotism! So i extended a football song and this is what i've got so far but will be adding more!

Oh England till i die,
Oh England till I die,
I know I am I'm sure I am
I'm England till I die

Oh english through and through
Oh english through and through
I know I am, I'm sure I am
I'm english through and through

Oh Englands pleasant lands
Englands green and pleasant lands
I know they are, I'm sure they are
They're Englands green and pleasant lands

Oh England till I die
Oh England till I die
I know I am, I'm sure I am
I'm England till i die

great writing as ever, but it inadvertantly made me think about what is englishness.. what is it to be English.

I haven't got a clue. I am English, but i don't feel English, or to put it another way i don't think i would but anything on the line to preserve or protect my Englishness... to protect my family yes... my DVD collection quite possibly... but England??? i just don't know... maybe i need a kebab and i pint of beer.. we'll see what happens anyway...

Sorry to prattle on... best regards as ever..
Oh Britain

We must live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I have just travelled on holiday from my home in the Yorkshire Dales, through the Lake District, over the border to Scotland and to the Trossachs. We have travelled for hour after hour after hour through the most beautiful scenery in the world. We had a lovely holiday and travelled back through the same lovely scenery - and not an airport, or crowds of people, or overcrowded cities - just Britain to perfection! Why go abroad when we have such beauty on our own doorsteps? As for the people we met - they were wonderful too, and you couldn't find any better anywhere else in the world.
No better place...

Hi Brook

There is nothing wrong with patriotism, and you've expressed yours beautifully.

I've lived overseas and travelled alot, and all I can say is there is no better place than England. You have to leave it to appreciate it, and only when you've seen month after month of nothing but sky scrapers or desert, do you really realise what a truly beautiful place we are in. I concur with Josie that often people run off to sun, fight through airports and get knackered travelling, when they could experience sheer beauty on our doorstep.

By the way, I don't know why but this poem reminded me of the sit com 'Only when I laugh' and the theme song, 'I'm H A P P Y'...James Bolam was my neighbour for a while, so maybe its just stuck in my head...Or maybe I need a holiday...

Anyway, lovely poem, well done brook

best wishes
