Alone

           Yet another lonely night

surrounded by people, some of no consequence,

some just passing through, minds full of nothing;

a perfect partner for their blank, expressionless faces.

Fragments in time. Solitary time.

Another lonely, sleepless night,

Lying motionless in a semi - conscious daze,

eyes, staring blindly at non - existent fantasies

that dance in and out of view.

Dance on.

Face, lifeless and lonely, fixes it’s vacant gaze,

watching but not looking, seeing but without sight.

Yet beneath this stone facade a volcano stirs.

Boiling.

Ready.

My mind usually calm and controlled, fights sleep,

logic and any form of rational thought

in it’s one - tracked search for reason.

One thought fills the wide-awake days.

One thought haunts the sleepless nights.

Fighting loneliness, emptiness,

ready to erupt and spew forth a million questions,

answers, hopes, desires.

What? Why? Should I? Could I? If.

One thought.

You

Thanks for your review.

Gilbert wrote a patter song that started, "Love unrequited robs me of me rest" (Iolanthe).

Thank god I'm far too old for such problems,

Nonetheless an excellent read,

Brian
